A new poll suggested that democratic socialist New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s sheen may already be wearing off among voters.
Mamdani’s support appears to have dropped 14 percentage points from less than a week ago, based on a previous poll, while Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa’s surged 12 percent.
Mamdani shocked the political world by winning the Democratic primary, defeating former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
He now faces Sliwa and Cuomo, as well as current New York City Mayor Eric Adams, in the general election. Cuomo and Adams are both running as independents, assuming they each decide to stay in the race.
A poll conducted by HarrisX from July 7 to July 8 found Mamdani, Cuomo, and Sliwa in a statistical tie.
In a four-way race, Mamdani garners 26 percent support, while Cuomo is at 23 percent, Sliwa is at 22 percent, and Adams is at 13 percent, while 15 percent of voters are undecided. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.
The race is also statistically tied if Adams drops out. In that case, Cuomo has 31 percent backing, Mamdani has 29 percent, and Sliwa has 28 percent.

This is the best chance in a generation for an actual Republican (not Bloomberg) to win the NYC mayoral race. Make the most of it.
Curtis Sliwa would be so awesome. I don’t even know where he stands on most issues. But he is a real New Yorker, a Republican, and has invested his life in making New York a better place. Wish I could vote for him!!
“ For those of you who say Sliwa can’t win, here’s the latest polling data.”

Thanks for posting. If this polling is accurate, that’s one hell of a rapid change in public attitudes.
Curtis, if you are reading this - lose the dopey beret. It makes you look like a kook.
Wish I could vote for Sliwa, too.
We CAN send him $$ ... which I’m sure he needs to run this muzzie out on a rail....for a win.
Too early for him to fall. Our criticism peaking too soon? We really need to prop him up enough to put down all the rats.
“””Curtis, if you are reading this - lose the dopey beret. It makes you look like a kook.”””
Yes. It is from a different time. He needs to freshen up his image.
This dem primary was as rigged as a carnival game.
wouldn’t call it dopey especially given what it represents, but he should definitely suit-up if he’s serious — otherwise, GTF out of the race and throw support to Adams
I suspect at the end of all this there will be a Trump endorsement I won’t say for who but that’s my guess.
The Guardian Angels were a great organization and I know the beret represents that. But it does look goofy and needs to go. Sliwa has a real chance here to look the part.
Well, shut ma mouth! Sliwa has a little gas in the tank?
If Sliwa stopped wearing the beret it would make him seem like a phony for dropping who he is and what it represents. Everyone knows he wears the beret and he should continue wearing it, just has he has for the last 45-50 years.
Looking at all four candidates, I don’t see anywhere the commie can draw more votes. He’s going to find himself stuck at 25 to 30%. He cannot win.
Even if you did I don’t think they would charge you with a crime. Well maybe if your candidate wins they would. Which is kind of an ironic dichotomy
No one wants to go full commie.
It was essentially a 3-way tie at the top all within the margin of error.
So I don’t see how anyone could say he couldn’t win.
With him surging the communists will narrow the field and endorse their choice.
I have admired Sliwa from afar for a long time just because he is so determined, even when he fails.
It would be very cool to see him win.
I’ve met him several times on the subway. He’s got the regular man vibe and is very personable and down to earth. A great guy in my opinion who will Crack down on crime, if nothing else.
