Hamas Responds to US-Backed Gaza Cease-Fire Plan
The Epoch Times ^ | May 31, 2025 | Tom Ozimek

The terror group has agreed to a partial hostage release but calls for a permanent truce, aid access, and Israeli military pullout.

The Hamas terrorist group said Saturday it had issued a formal response to a U.S.-backed cease-fire proposal that would pause the war in Gaza for at least 60 days and secure the release of about half of the remaining hostages.

The group said in a statement issued on its Telegram channel on May 31 that, under the deal, it will release 10 living hostages and 18 bodies in return for Israel’s release of an “agreed-upon number of Palestinian prisoners.”

Hamas’s announcement follows weeks of diplomatic efforts led by U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and other mediators to revive a truce that collapsed in early March, when Israel resumed its military campaign in Gaza citing a breakdown in negotiations.

The latest framework, put forward by Witkoff, proposes a two-month pause in fighting, the initial release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian detainees, and renewed talks toward a permanent end to the nearly 20-month-long war.

Already endorsed by Israeli officials, the cease-fire proposal received a tepid response from Hamas on Thursday. The next day, President Donald Trump said negotiators were closing in on a deal.

“They’re very close to an agreement on Gaza, and we’ll let you know about it during the day or maybe tomorrow,” Trump told reporters in Washington. Late in the evening, asked if he was confident Hamas would approve the deal, he told reporters: “They’re in a big mess. I think they want to get out of it.”

The only thing the terror group has agreed to is to offer a self-preserving counter proposal.

Meanwhile, southern Gaza and northern Gaza are being emptied of ‘civilians’. And IDF action seems to intensify without pause.

Hamas mocking Christian eschatology by demanding a seven year ceasefire.

The terrorists keep stalling around hoping for an imaginary way to escape the inevitable but... they won’t get iT

IDF needs to finish the job of cleaning out the Gaza terrorist Occupation. open the damned Egyptian border so that those wishing to return to their home country may do so. It is disgusting and extremely inhumane for the Egyptian military to block their free repatriation or transit elsewhere. The Egyptian dictatorship is holding its own Arab Moslem people hostage in Gaza just as those people are holding innocent Israeli kidnap victims hostage in Gaza. We hope that PDJTrump will tell the Egyptian dictatorship to stop screwing around and open the fence already!

The current Hamas problem is not in Gaza but rather in Qatar and perhaps cairo where the negotiators are living high on the hog.

The Mossad and or CIA or both, must kill sall the Hamas officials residing outside og Gaza before there can be any significant real progress. So long as there is a rump Hamas government out side of Gaza, there will never be a resolution to the cancer that is Hamas

The “so called Palestinians” are not Egyptians.

They are from Jordan.

The English were the ones who put them there in Gaza is.

Egypt is not made of Arabs. They have a large Christian population that have survived many generations (have heard it is the largest Christian population in the Middle East).

They are a poor nation, the USA has long supported them in return for supporting peace for Israel.

I have old friends in Cairo, Christian friends.

No, quit negotiating with a pack of rabid dogs. Kill them all. Level all of gaza. Export any left alive to Somalia.

If only we had a RINO for President. He/she/it would do everything perfectly.

You're exactly right, Bert - they must be entirely eradicated or rendered moot just like the Nazis post WWII.

Looking at the depths these monsters stoop to I wonder if they meant literally ALMOST HALF of the hostages. As in 40 or so percent of each body in various conditions of decay and abuse.

How supposedly better-educated Americans cheer for demons who chop up living babies and rape people living AND dead is beyond my comprehension.

That threat was a sign he was getting bad advice yet again.

There has been no public correction of personnel or foreign policy.

The consequences weigh heavy as he touts negotiations with Russia/ukraine & Iran.

This is my shocked face:

It is about credibility; what are Russia and China supposed to think when President Trump speaks ?

President Trump is the best in my lifetime. Even President Reagan did not truly avenge the Marines in Lebanon nor our citizens in Iran.

Trump is deliberately responding to their wack-a-mole chaos with wack-a-mole chaos of his own.

He knows how to fight. He knows how to win.

Defense Minister Katz just issued a direct warning to remaining Hamas leaders:

“Israel’s long arm will reach everyone involved in the October 7th massacre, wherever they are, near or far, until they are all dead. Az A-Din Al-Haddad in Gaza and Khalil Al-Hayya abroad, you are next.”

Khalil Al-Hayya is sheltering in Qatar.

Trump is deliberately responding to their wack-a-mole chaos with wack-a-mole chaos of his own. He knows how to fight. He knows how to win.

He certainly knows how to talk tough. Will Iran and their surrogates (not to mention Russia and China) believe he will follow through on his threats and take the peaceful deal hoping to prevail when he is gone ? I don't see Iran ever giving up their progress toward nuclear weapons willingly.

President Donald Trump spoke to the press on Wednesday at the Oval Office and said that he asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to take action that would jeopardize the talks with Iran.

Asked if he warned the Prime Minister not to take action, he answered: "I'll be honest - yes, I did," and added: "It's not a warning, I said I don't think it's appropriate right now. We're having very good discussions with them. I said I don't think it's appropriate right now because if we could settle it with a very strong document, with inspections, and no trust. I don't trust anybody."

He explained: "I want it very strong, where we could go in with inspectors, we can take whatever we want, we could blow up whatever we want, but nobody gets killed. We can blow up a lab, but nobody's going to be in the lab, as opposed to everybody being in the lab when we blow it up."

The President reiterated: "I told him that this would be inappropriate to do because we're very close to a solution."

He noted that "that could change at any moment. It could change with a phone call, but right now I think they want to make a deal, and if we can make a deal, it will save a lot of lives."

Earlier in his remarks, the President discussed the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip: "We are getting food to the people of Gaza. It's been a very nasty situation, a very nasty fight. October 7th was a very nasty day, the worst that I think I've ever seen. It was a horrible day, and people aren't going to forget that either. So we'll see how that all works out."
