President Donald Trump on Saturday warned Walmart not to raise prices, two days after the retailer said price hikes were possible.
"Walmart should STOP trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain," Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday. "Walmart made BILLIONS OF DOLLARS last year, far more than expected. Between Walmart and China they should, as is said, ‘EAT THE TARIFFS,’ and not charge valued customers ANYTHING. I’ll be watching, and so will your customers!!!"
On Thursday, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said it would do its best to keep prices down, but with the "magnitude" of the tariffs "even at the reduced levels announced this week, we aren’t able to absorb all the pressure given the reality of narrow retail margins."
McMillon made the statement as the retailer reported its first-quarter results, which met Wall Street expectations. Walmart, the largest retailer in the country, responded to Trump on Saturday, saying in a statement: "We have always worked to keep our prices as low as possible, and we won’t stop. We’ll keep prices as low as we can for as long as we can given the reality of small retail margins."
Consumers could see price hikes as soon as the end of May, Walmart Chief Financial Officer John David Rainey told CNBC on Thursday.
Despite the tariff uncertainty, the company said it "will play offense" and may make strategic investments to strengthen its value proposition.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
You know who is not paying tariffs? American made products.
Americans want to have their cake (higher wages) and eat it too (cheap goods from foreign markets).
Walmart is sickening. Everything, not food, in the store is made in China.
He needs to butt out.
They’re not going to eat your tax Donald. Walmart keeps their margins razor thin. They make it up on volume, but the literally don’t have the margin to eat your tax. And even if they did, why should they? Businesses exist to make money. And part of making money is passing costs, including your tax, onto the consumer.
Yes he does. Walmart’s net profit margin is 2.75%, but they’re expected to swallow 10%-30% tariffs? That’s just stupid.
Re: 3 - that’s incorrect. Sterilite containers are sold in Walmart and are American made out of American materials.
If this is really true, and not more Leftist media Lies, then the federal gov’t via Trump has NO CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to interfere with private enterprises prices (or wages).
Wage and price controls are always a disaster and bring shortages.
Stop this nonsense Mr. Trump.
They will raise prices ...
... or possibly find goods made in USA to sell.
I'm old enough to remember when made in USA was a Walmart selling point. So the current model isn't some sort of law of nature.
all tariffs are passed down to the customers.... i don’t know what kind of business can survive if they eat the tariff.
that said, i’m very happy the tariffs ARE being passed down to the shoppers, this will teach them not to buy chinese made gooks.
Unconstitutional gov’t forced price controls inevitably lead to less products and fewer stores - SHORTAGES.
STOP IT ALREADY!!!
Go pick a random product in Walmart and try to find someone in the United States who makes that same product. 90% of the time you won’t find anyone.

That’s what Trump is trying to change.
Good post.
There’s something very big governmentish about Trump telling a private business how to price their goods and/or pass on their costs. This is a meddlesome and unhelpful road to go down.
No good.
Unconstitutionally gov’t-forced price controls lead to FEWER PRODUCTS AND FEWER STORES - SHORTAGES.
STOP IT ALREADY!
> Sterilite containers are sold in Walmart and are American made out of American materials. <
I’m quite familiar with that brand. In my neck of the woods, Sterilite containers are about 2.5 times as expensive as their Chinese-made containers. And I buy only Sterilite containers for food storage.
Anyone who would store food in Chinese containers is crazy. And that’s because Chinese manufacturers don’t give a damn about safety or quality control.
One more thing. Tupperware used to make containers solely in the United States. That’s no longer true.
“You know who is not paying tariffs?”
China, apparently.
To be fair, if we had a 5%, or 10% tariff, China and Walmart could cover it without affecting consumers. But this is going to be highly inflationary, hurt consumers, and take all the bad feelings about the bad Biden economy and bad Biden inflation, and put it right on Trump.
The rollout of the tariffs has been a disaster, need to get Navarro (Retardo) back in prison ASAP.
Sorry, small typo in my post #17. I meant to say:
Sterilite containers are about 2.5 times as expensive as their Chinese-made competitors.
The cost of bringing manufacturing back to America will be higher prices to consumers. There is no way around that, and people do not want to hear that.
The long-term effects of higher wages to American workers might offset higher prices for goods and services. Maybe. The short-term effects of higher prices are immediate and certain.
It is a difficult problem to solve.
