Tariffs are costing automakers billions, but they’ve announced little in the way of car price hikes. While that’s good for car buyers, it’s not necessarily good for the American economy.
Costs have ballooned for car companies after the Trump administration imposed 25% tariffs on imported cars — nearly half the US car market — as well as an additional 25% on imported parts, which every car built here depends on.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
If recession were a concern, interest rates would be at 1%
Nothing good that happens when Trump is President is necessarily good.
Got it.
As the kids say, “Haters gonna hate.”
“Good is bad. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength” straight from the book “1984” courtesy of your Leftist Liars.
It sure is awful for Americans when car prices are going up by 10 or 20 percent!
I wish my Big Mac cost $30. I’d even add another $10 bucks if they made it a value meal.
I think $15 candy bars are great!
If only my taxes would also go up I think we’d have heaven on earth!
“Lower prices for vehicles is bad.”
Basically, they are speculating that the reason prices aren't going up is because we are heading for a recession. Btw, JP Morgan just changed its prediction to the US not entering a recession. This article is spreading doom and gloom based on old news.
Idiots at CNN.
Car prices have been ridiculously high since Pandemic. Automakers over-produced some of the expensive models ($120,000 pickup trucks! $50,000 for a Ford Brono, sorry they are nuts) and those are sitting on lots across the country. They sold when supply was limited and millions were getting $600 a week from the feds, but those days are over.
Other competitors, particularly imports, are for many a better bargain overall not just on the price but with longer advertised warranty. You can get a brand new Kia SUV for $25,000 to $39,999 depending on the model, or even a Tesla sedan or mid-sized “suv” for under $37,500 after the Rebate (whatever your opinion on rebates, it’s still $10k less than a Bronco, which I had one 20 years ago it was a POS). Toyota fully equipped Tundra is $50,000 a comparable Ford F-150 is $75,000.
Sure I want people to buy American. Make great cars and sell them at reasonable prices. People don’t want to pay $10,000 or $40,000 more than they need to.
Reminds me of many years ago when CNN had an article highlighting the negative impact on coffin makers in Iraq after George W Bush’s surge in troops strategy lowered fatalities....was the time it dawned on me what the MSM really was.
Honda and Toyota come to mind ...
Capitalist supply and demand is too hard for DNCNN to understand. Tariffs are eaten by governments or manufacturers to keep prices down.
New cars suck. That’s a huge factor.
Yes true, after I posted I realized a lot of those “imports” are indeed assembled here in the USA, if not made in the USA.
All new cars are just ridiculously over priced. Even used cars cost way too much. But try to sell a car, and you get lowballed...

Toyota has a big plant in San Antonio.
Of course. They want everyone to ride the bus or a bicycle.
Yeah, so I decided to look a few up.
Kentucky has a Toyota plant, a Ford plant and Corvette plant (GM).
Toyotas are also made in TX as you noted, and in IN and MS.
Mazda in AL.
Honda in AL, OH and IN.
Nissan in TN and MS (though I hear Nissan is having worlds of trouble lately, I had an Infiniti around 2005 it was a great and extremely reliable car never had to repair anything on it).
Kias are made in GA.
Volkwagon in TN and SC.
BMW and Mercedes too but I think just the smaller SUV models. The sedans still come over from Germany.
Really only Ford and GM have plants in MI anymore. And even they moved a lot to the south. Better place to live, better weather, cheaper land and cheaper homes/cost of living for the workers. Just a better life all around for everyone than in MI.
CA used to have a lot of auto plants. As a kid I could bike ride to the GM plant where they made Camaros. Very popular car. Now its a shopping mall and some apartments. We had aerospace too, now only the specialized parts suppliers remain. CA has Tesla and Rivian. Rivian will probably shift to GA once that plant is constructed. The link below says almost all Tesla production is in CA even though I know they have a big factory in TX it says they only make the Model Y and Cybertruck there.
If you desire here is a wiki link (accuracy is not 100% with wikipedia) of plants and models:

What a hoot. Even if I won the lottery I'd balk at paying that for a pickup truck.
