A poll suggests that if Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) were to enter the race to be the next governor of New York, she would not only have a commanding lead in the Republican primary, but she would also close in on defeating Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY).
The GrayHouse poll conducted between April 22-24, 2025, which surveyed 826 registered voters in New York, found that if the next Republican primary for governor of New York were held today, 44 percent of voters would support Stefanik, while seven percent would support Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY).
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman received five percent of support, while another 44 percent expressed that they “don’t know” whom they would vote for.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Lost cause.
“Is NY state a lost cause or is there hope?”
NYC is a hive of insanity. Lost cause.
IL is not as blue as you think about I think its lost also.
I was listening to the radio in the car and this radio host was saying how she accepts the pot holes and bad roads and the corruption in Chicago because its a thing
We need her in Congress or JDs VP.
Zeldin ran a near perfect campaign and was an outstanding candidate and lost 53% to 47%.
It is hard to see how any Republican could improve on those numbers.
Haven’t seen this poll, but I would not be surprised if the Republicans are Competitive in NY if they put a strong candidate.
Dems have screwed their pooch a lot, especially in NY with lots of idiotic things, that are angering a lot of even Dems who are not ideological hard core leftists.
Dems are really really in a bad way, even with large segments of their typical base. They are pandering to the hard hard left of their party at its alienating a lot of folks who view themselves as somewhat liberal, but still have a brain in their head and see this radical crap as absolutely insane.
Bingo
2022 was a different time. Still in lockdowns, people still believe Biden was competent... didn’t have a 2024 campaign where democrats were absolutely completley off the rails.
Didn’t have democrats going to court to halt the deportation of criminals and gang members.
Hochul only winning by under 6 points, while she won, isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement, in fact, that’s the closest the NY governors race has been since 1994, for either party.
I am not on the ground in NY, but, I would not be so hurried to write of NY as unwinnable at the governor level. Hochul has done many things that have angered a lot of folks, and the democrat brand as a whole has lost a LOT of support everywhere among more moderate and reasonable folks.
Guess we shall see, but I would not so handily dismiss that the GOP, if they run a strong candidate, cannot compete.
Ritchie Torres (Democrat Congressman from the Bronx) is the bellwether.
If he quits the Democrat Party because of wokism (which he truly hates) then we know they are in real trouble.
If he stays in the party then we know the “rebels” will fall in line and still vote Democrat.
The walls are closing in on NYChitty, which is the draft on the rest of the state. Queens is slowly turning red as are parts of the Bronx. Eastern LI is also turning red.
Zeldin lost the overall count by 375K voted to hochul. He lost NYChitty by 1.3 million votes. Stefanik absolutely has a chance.
see post #11
One of the biggest problem in the state is the GOP is completely spineless- that is starting to change though
“the draft on the rest of the state”
Drag, not draft....i was busy with the latter all weekend long
Hard to tell.
The TDS runs strong there but hochul has so destroyed the state, maybe people are waking up.
The other head wind the GOP faces is that people angry with Democrats are leaving the state in droves.
If you look closely at the numbers the middle class is leaving while the people moving into the state are higher income and more likely to be leftists.
The country is in a demographic “sorting” process which makes it difficult to get rid of Democrats in Democrat controlled states.
And in the aftermath of Zeldin’s great race, the NYS GOP responded in typical fashion by putting the inept and useless Ed Cox back in charge of the party to ensure they do not get that close again.
Lost cause. Too bad for the decent people and children of NY.
NY, CT, MA and NH, for example, are all Northeastern states that love to vote Democrat right into a governing ditch. Then, they sometimes go for a moderate Pubbie to steer them out of it and back onto the road until they end up in the same spot a few elections later.
There is always hope.
The Legislature is like 2-1 in the Dem’s favor.
