China asks South Korea not to export rare earth products to US defense, warns companies could be sanctioned

Beijing instructed South Korea to halt rare material products such as transformers, EVs, aerospace and medical equipment..

Beijing has asked South Korean companies to cease exporting products containing Chinese-originated heavy rare earth metals to U.S. defense firms, warning that Seoul could face sanctions.

China’s Ministry of Commerce sent official notices to at least two South Korean companies recently, the Korea Economic Daily reported on Tuesday, citing sources in the South Korean transformer industry.

The outlet said the letters did not specify what type of penalties South Korean companies could face if the industry continues to export equipment to the U.S. military or its contractors. The equipment in question can include power transformers, displays, batteries, electric vehicles, aerospace and medical equipment.

While the move is intended to retaliate against President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs on China, Beijing may start blocking sales of critical metals altogether, disrupting the global economy.

...

The warning marks the first time Beijing has taken formal measures to control exports from non-American companies tied to the ongoing trade war between the U.S. and China. The move could heavily impact South Korea’s export-reliant economy

...

Early this month, China effectively halted exports of seven precious minerals - vital for assembling cars, robotics and defense systems - to the U.S. in a direct strike on America's manufacturing and defense supply chain.

Overseas deliveries of magnets halted on April 4 when new licensing rules took effect

...

National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett acknowledged the growing alarm on April 14.

"Rare earths are a part of lots of the economy," Hassett said to reporters at the White House. "The rare earth limits are being studied very carefully, and they’re concerning, and we’re thinking about all the options right now."

It’s over for China.

Bye red dragon. 5000 years of worthless trinkets and meaningless masonry.

Thus starts the battle to lock down rare earths.

Who gave China nuclear weapons?

Clinton sold them the W-88 warhead technology in the late 90s.

We have massive rare earth deposits. Eco Nazis, with their globalist co-conspirators shut down the mining. If we are willing to fight leftists for it we could be a producer again.

Yes and no. I 100% agree with you that we should mine baby mine the rare earths we do have. For example, the argument about getting cobalt from slave mines in Congo would go away if we got cobalt from the deposits in Minnesota. But I believe it's incorrect to say that we have all of the rare earths we use. We do, however, need to get away from depending on rare earths within the sphere of China's influence.

Heads up, people.

Folks are never informed about this matter because degrees in journalism require no knowledge beyond how to follow an editor’s narrative direction.

The single most important of these elements is neodymium and for some unfathomable reason, the public doesn’t know about it.

This material retains magnetism 1000s of times more readily than iron. A neodymium magnet is why we have cordless drills and saws and all sorts of tools on jobsites. It’s not lithium batteries. Without neodymium, those would drain in 2 or 3 minutes.

An electric motor is coils of wire in a magnetic field. Apply current to the coil and torque results. The stronger the mag field, the more forceful the torque. And the reverse, too. Apply torque mechanically and spin the coil or the magnet and current is created in the coil — aka generator or alternator.

Because of the awesome magnetic power of neodymium you get enormous results in motors and generators. Anything that needs a magnet can have a smaller one or more powerful one with neodymium (MRIs).

It is neodymium that affects civilization. The US doesn’t have much, processed or not. Stop with the kneejerk that the US always has everything it needs. As GPT how much neodymium is in the US and the answer will be XX million tons of RE elements, including neodymium. It’s always enshrouded like that.

China is South Korea’s largest trading partner.

China’s long term strategy has always been to “reel them in and then threaten to cut them off”.

We do, however, need to get away from depending on rare earths within the sphere of China's influence.

Most certainly, as a general course.

What China is saying in this headline is: "If you don't hurt the U.S., we will hurt you."

Clearly sounds like a Mafia tactic.

Neodymiun is also used in doping solid state laser system crystals that are grown in boules. (Laser rods) Virtually every U.S. military rangefinder designator system uses these rods. Apache helicopters, F-18 Hornets and many more. Huh. I almost forgot I knew that. Lol
