Trump voters got exactly what they wanted — so why are people complaining? | Opinion (barf)
Alternet ^ | Apr 4, 2025 | John Stoehr

Posted on 04/04/2025 9:50:11 AM PDT by where's_the_Outrage?

This week, Donald Trump announced sweeping new tariffs that the Associated Press called “a historic tax hike that could push the global order to a breaking point,” and what I want to know is this:

Why are we still wondering what Trump voters want?

He promised. He delivered. What’s the mystery?

I ask, because our discourse seems to be invested in the idea that his supporters don’t really want this, and I don’t just mean his hardcore supporters. We tell ourselves that the last election was about inflation and the high cost of living, like the price of eggs, and that it doesn’t make sense for people who voted against that to welcome it now.

Resolving this tension is important. The Democrats believe that if they can show Trump voters what he’s going to do – how he’s going to make everything more expensive – then they can get some of them to see why supporting a Democrat in the midterms is good for them.

In doing this, the Democrats assume that Trump voters are motivated by their wallets. That’s understandable. The conventional wisdom is that inflation caused the electorate to burn up the incumbent party.

But the conventional wisdom also asks us to do something that we should not do and it prevents us from asking the hard questions. In effect, it treats Trump supporters as if they didn’t really understand what they were getting into, and as a consequence of not truly understanding, they can’t be held responsible for what they......

It’s not that Trump voters were mad at Biden, because he didn’t do enough about inflation. I think they were mad at him, because he did more than any president to expand the economic pie to include all those who are usually left behind, especially Black people.

The only complaining I'm seeing from Trump supports are about the lawfare against Trump's agenda and out of control judges.

Far Left Alternet. It’s not the Trump voters who are complaining, MORON! The complainers are those who lost their power to steal my money and my freedom.

If you neglect your teeth for 100 years, the dentist has a whole bunch of fixing to do, and it’s not going to be fun.

The only complaining is coming from Dems and Rinos.

I am complaining that media hid everything from the American people. They hid how bad the economy was. They hid the spending spree and government welfare jobs. They hid the problems with other nations and the trade deficits. They hid that our workers and companies were being destroyed by bad trade policies. They hid that the job numbers were horrible, and getting worse. They hid that the POTUS was medically incompetent and other people (unelected) were running the nation.

I am not complaining that it’s going to be a tough job for Trump to fix 16 years of Broken with Janet Yellen, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden accounting for 28.5 Trillion of the nations 34.5 Trillion debt that’s destroying Single working Mothers, minorities, and Americas working poor. I expect as we find out the truth, and put something in to fix it, it’s going to be painful.

Who’s complaining?

Well, we have a few whinny posters here who supported other candidates and are still butt hurt.

Also there are some who are not on board with “America First” preferring “Americans Last, International Corporations First”. Everything is acceptable as long as that sweet sweet cash keeps flowing into their bank accounts.

Yeah, that’s it. We voted against the meat puppet because he made life better for blacks, because no Trump supporter wants to see black Americans succeed. /s

It had nothing to do with gay festivals on the WH lawn, pretend women appointed to high office, the 13 dead soldiers/marines in Afghanistan, the so-called Inflation Reduction Act that threw billions at electric school buses, etc., etc., etc.

Pretty much anybody who gets their cheap crap from China. I’m into some pretty niche stuff and all the mailings I get from folks is something else. DVD production by smaller studios will cost much more because they can’t get plastic cases cheap. Board game manufacturers are going to be forced to raise their prices by 50% because they can’t get dice and small parts. Shoot, I even got an email from an AI newsletter saying that this was the worst economic downturn since Covid and AI will no longer be able to be developed.

And the kicker is that they all say the same thing: “We can’t get it made in America because lack of manufacturing/lack of materials/lack of infrastructure/lack of talent/lack of something”.

We did get exactly what we wanted and I could not be more thrilled. If only we could keep getting this for another 30 years straight. America would be saved and generations of Americans woujld be far better off.

The only complaints from the right is that Trump isn't moving fast enough.
For example: Why no arrests yet?

“Who’s complaining?”

Not me, things are good. Trump’s plan to get this out of the way well before the midterms is good.
