China’s BYD reported annual revenue of 777 billion yuan ($107 billion) for 2024, leapfrogging Tesla as competition between the two EV rivals heats up.
“BYD has become an industry leader in every sector from batteries, electronics to new energy vehicles, breaking the dominance of foreign brands and reshaping the new landscape of the global market,” Wang Chuanfu, chairman and president of BYD, said in a statement.
The filing comes shortly after BYD announced a new battery technology that it claims can charge EVs almost as quickly as it takes to fill a gasoline car.
Last week, BYD unveiled an ultra-fast charging system that it said was capable of adding 250 miles of range in just five minutes, outpacing Tesla’s charging technology. Tesla’s Superchargers take 15 minutes to charge and provide a range of 200 miles.
In addition, BYD launched an advanced driver-assistance system last month for most of its models at no extra cost. Analysts said the free upgrade of its proprietary “God’s Eye” system increased pressure on Tesla and other Chinese EV makers. In contrast, Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) service is available to US customers for a $99 monthly subscription or a one-time payment of $8,000

They have used their BYD blade batteries since 2021 globally and no news of any one of them igniting

I heard a meteor came pretty close the other day. Another one is on the way; we’d like to deflect it, but we spent all our production and resources on building cars that won’t be worth spit in four years, and data centers so Elon and Bill can tell everybody else what you had for breakfast.
Many news reports of EV cars igniting and burning in China, and many of them are BYD cars. In May 2024 a BYD showroom burned down due to one of their models igniting inside, burned down the entire building including the cars inside.
Seems that BYD EV cars are very dangerous.

If you watch any YouTube videos about their cars you will see how poor the quality of construction and materials of these cars is, they not only self immolate at a much higher frequency than Tesla’s, they also fall apert and are severely prone to rust. But hey ya get what ya pay for.
