It’s been almost four years since U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy cast the political dice and diverted from Republican group think. He dared to endorse the impeachment of then-recently replaced President Donald Trump for his incitement of the Jan. 6 insurrectionist attack on the Capitol.
“Our Constitution and our country is more important than any one person. I voted to convict President Trump because he is guilty,” Cassidy said at the time.
Now Louisiana’s senior senator finds himself an unfavored incumbent, although a well-funded one, among hardcore GOP types ahead of his 2026 reelection bid. Despite an otherwise consistent track record of backing Trump’s favored causes and legislation, the impeachment vote was a bridge too far for the MAGA faithful.
Seizing upon Cassidy’s vulnerability, Louisiana Treasurer John Fleming has said he will enter the Republican primary next year. State Sen. Blake Miguez, arguably Louisiana’s most effective gun rights advocate, appears to be positioning himself for the race as well.
As for Cassidy, his actions and statements as of late have the appearance of someone making multiple acts of contrition with hopes they put him back in the good graces of Trumpian Republicans.

He voted to convict in the second shampeachment. He’s a disgusting RINO and needs to be primaried.
Scumbag RINO
It’ll be important to financially support his primary opponent.
There is no party primary in Louisiana. There is a jungle primary on general election day - if the top candidate gets 50% +1, they are elected. If not, the top two candidates go to a runoff.
This is where it gets tricky for Trump to endorse, as there are still a significant number of Democrats who vote in Louisiana, and they could rally behind Cassidy just to stick it to Trump. Enough Republicans would still support Cassidy that the combined vote could put him over the top.
This is not same system as what they have in Alaska where they have a jungle primary and the top 4 go into a ranked-choice voting situation, but Trump rallying for the other Republican candidate in the Senate race and against Murkowski is what saved her - there were some polls showing her not even making it into the top 4 prior to that rally - then all of Dems jumped into her camp and with the minuscule amount of Republican support she still had, she was able to prevail.
Lot’s of friends and family over there in good, old south Louisiana.
Generally speaking, once one delibrately double-crosses those Cajuns over there, that invdividual is pretty much finished...for good, and they have long memories.
There’s likely NOTHING Cassidy could begin to say or do at this point to save himself. He’s pissed off a lot of folks since that impeachment BS...and they’re still pissed at him.
He needs to go
Almost ranked choice voting, but not quite there yet.
I’ve never liked Cassidy. He’s a Lisa Murkowski in pants.
Cassidy voted to convict Trump in the 2nd impeachment farce.
That vote alone, tells you all you need to know about him.
Louisiana deserves better.

“Pathetic & Disgusting “
This is no longer the case. We will have closed primaries for several offices beginning next year. Cassidy is a dead man walking.
https://www.sos.la.gov/electionsandvoting/getelectioninformation/reviewtypesofelections/Pages/default.aspx#closed_party_primaries
Beginning in 2026, closed party primaries will be held in the Spring of each election year for U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, Supreme Court Justice, Public Service Commissioner (PSC), and Board of Elementary and Secondary Education Member (BESE).
Only political parties recognized pursuant to R.S. 18:441(C) may have party primary elections for party primary offices. The Democratic and Republican parties are the only two parties that currently meet this criteria. Any candidate who is not affiliated with the Democratic or Republican parties who chooses to run in the general election must qualify via nominating petition at the same time that candidates qualify for the closed party primary election.
Voters who are registered as Democrat or Republican can only participate in their party's primary. Voters who are not affiliated with any party (No Party) can choose to participate in the Democratic or Republican party primaries, but not both. If a voter is registered as affiliated with any other party, they cannot participate in closed party primaries.
Finally, get rid of the former Dem who switched parties knowing he was a deadender as a Dem but still has Dem proclivities

What about him?
Did he vote to convict Trump in either impeachment farce?
Nope, although a flawed Senator, that was a bridge too far.
He just fit into that list. Total tool.
I can think of something worse.
He just fit into that list. Total tool.

Yeah, I don’t like him.
Texas can do better.
