Jeff Bezos
@JeffBezos I shared this note with the Washington Post team this morning:
I’m writing to let you know about a change coming to our opinion pages.
We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets. We’ll cover other topics too of course, but viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others.
There was a time when a newspaper, especially one that was a local monopoly, might have seen it as a service to bring to the reader’s doorstep every morning a broad-based opinion section that sought to cover all views. Today, the internet does that job.
I am of America and for America, and proud to be so. Our country did not get here by being typical. And a big part of America’s success has been freedom in the economic realm and everywhere else. Freedom is ethical — it minimizes coercion — and practical — it drives creativity, invention, and prosperity.
I offered David Shipley, whom I greatly admire, the opportunity to lead this new chapter. I suggested to him that if the answer wasn’t “hell yes,” then it had to be “no.” After careful consideration, David decided to step away. This is a significant shift, it won’t be easy, and it will require 100% commitment — I respect his decision. We’ll be searching for a new Opinion Editor to own this new direction.
I’m confident that free markets and personal liberties are right for America. I also believe these viewpoints are underserved in the current market of ideas and news opinion. I’m excited for us together to fill that void.

He’s smelling the coffee
Somethings up when your enemies start acting friendly.
A little known fact is that much of Silicon Valley turned their backs on the GOP after the Bush Family declared war on the world.
It is very possible that the winds have changed.
I DO know that the DEI mandate was causing them to spend $$$ they didn’t want to.
Good for him. Another victory.
Now, does personal liberties extend to what happened on October 7? Because one of their columnists explicitly supports that unspeakable violence, and she must be dismissed.
I DO know that the DEI mandate was causing them to LOSE $$$ they didn’t HAVE to...................
About six years too late. He’s probably trying to get some recovery going and find a buyer.
Those reading the WP are actually against personal liberties and free markets.
It will be the same ol' Washington Compost.
Here is Shipley’s Bio:

Don’t start your celebration just yet.
:-)
I was shocked to see how far back and where gun control started and came from.
I will get clobbered now, but I’m used to it :)
Violent felons don’t need guns.
The mentally ill thing i a slippery slope, but having spent some time in wards after injurying my head, some of the people there REALLY needed to not have guns.
Like the guy who hid in his closet waiting for the “foreign forces:” that invaded America to come get him.
It’s a miracle he didn’t blow a cop away.
LIMITED and WELL CONTROLLEd limitations must exist.
UNLESS you think it is worth the trade off of some deaths happening each year as part of the no gun control idea.
That’s not insulting you or being sarcastic.
I am SICK of the speed limit in my liberal city being pushed down to the point that old ladies walk faster.
At WHAT POINT, is the extreme inconvienence of barely moving worth the extra 1.5 deaths per 100,000 that will occur.
Hell not driving AT ALL would make death rates zero among car accidents.
And yeah, I vote for not a perfect world, people will die, keep the speed limit sane (not too fast and not too slow) and leave it at that.
Maybe it’s apples and oranges but I could see your view if you think that way about guns.
Don’t fall for the “Okey-Dokey.”
Also—a hilarious leftist article that includes references to Shipley:

“he was earnest, conventionally liberal, but now seems to have morphed into a total empty suit.”.
Lol.
I do to. I sense that there is a lot of Americanism starting to go around. U.S.A.
This is exciting news. I’m going out right now and getting a subscription to the Washington Post. Shoot, I might even get two.

Okey-Dokey, Artichokey..............
With all of the fed workers going back to the office, they will have less time to go shopping. They will rely on Amazon like a lot of the working stiffs have to do.
EC
It’s a start...
I think that watching the Biden Administration and Europe unlawfully seizing the assets of Russian billionaires clarified their thinking. If government can do that to Russian born billionaires then government can do that to Cuban born billionaires - like Bezos. I think this clarified the thinking of South African born Elon Musk as well.
He may define “personal liberties” as murdering innocent little preborn babies between conception and birth.
He may define “free markets” as letting foreigners take advantage of America.
