BREAKING: House Passes Trump-GOP Budget

The House floor was the scene of some drama tonight—what else is new?—as Republicans launched a last-minute push to drag a few GOP holdouts over the finish line to pass the budget resolution.

Earlier in the night, Republican leadership brought the resolution to the floor, only to pull it back before voting could be completed, reportedly because the GOP had a few more votes to whip. Once those were secured, the resolution came to the floor again.

The party-line vote was 217-213 in favor, with three House members abstaining. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) was the lone Republican holdout. He had indicated earlier in the day that he would vote no.

“If the Republican plan passes, under the rosiest assumptions, which aren't even true, we're going to add $328 billion to the deficit this year, we're going to add $295 billion to the deficit the year after that, $242 billion to the deficit after that,” Massie said. “Why would I vote for that?”

Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters he had spoken to President Trump multiple times today: "He knows exactly what we're doing and why."

According to the House Budget Committee, the resolution would:

Massie should not be applauded for voting with the Dems. There is something really wrong with him. I hope he gets a primary opponent who will support Trump.

It’s going to take years to eliminate the 4th branch of govt. within the govt. that was set up even before Woodrow Wilson. All of it unconstitutional micro-bit by micro-bit. Lobster in in the cold water pot with the heat turned on just enough to not notice enough to care.

Tax cuts need to remain, no taxes on tips and overtime. Also take a look at taxes outside of Social Security that cause a reduction in payments.

There should be zero based budgeting. Everything starts with nothing. Tell us what you want to spend money on.

...Massie said. “Why would I vote for that?”...

Only once in American history has the Federal debt been zero. That was under Andrew Jackson. It should be obvious by now our National Debt is a systemic problem.  Milton Friedman showed that the cure is a Balanced Budget Amendment. Only using Article V is going to make that happen. There is no way Congress will limit its ability to spend money.

The trick is to actually hold Congress after the mid terms. Not an easy task historically. Gingrich has made the point that tax cuts are needed right away in order for that to happen.

So the debt can gets kicked down the road another two years and gets worse. Assuming the Democrats don't recover in time and the Republicans maintain control then what?

Since Trump can't run again what can he do then? I suggest he spends his last two years going state to state getting the first ever Article V Convention to happen on the promise that he will chair it, just like Washington did in the original Convention.

You know, and Trump does too, that they don’t have to spend it.

Balancing the federal budget is going to take more than Congress. It’s going to take an executive that spends under the budgeted amount.

unfortunate the bill couldn’t have avoided the increased deficit spending — tariffs & DOGE voodoo aside

I'm against that myself. Maybe DOGE on its own won't fix this, but combining it with bringing the tax paying jobs back to the US just might.

Buy American. It may be our last chance to save our country.

Massie is wrong. Tax cuts did not & will not add to the deficit as anyone who looks at the facts knows. There’s smart & book smart. When theories don’t pan out, it’s time to discard them and embrace theories based on events.

Except that is not logical. Tax cuts drive the economy and more revenue is realized. Why are intelligent people so resistant to a fact that has been proven by experience if it contradicts an armchair theory they have embraced?

Well now, isn't it nice passing things and not having to rely on Democrats. Congratulations to the men and women of the GOP. I am proud of the effort. Now it is possible to serve the left some more of it's own medicine. Use our media to paint them as total obstructionists.

With no taxes on tips, I can only imagine our tipping culture will spread even further, into other sectors.

Will gratuities become part of salesmen’s expected compensation? How about customer service? When is it a tip—and when is it a bribe—from that free drink courtesy of the bartender on up?

Tax cuts drive the economy and more revenue is realized.

Tax cuts will only drive the economy if we buy American made.

It's like those stimulus checks that bounced around retail for a while, but ended up back in China. It was a great racket for the Chinese. They made their money once when we bought the products, and again when we paid back the interest on the loans.

It isn't enough to give us more buying power if that money ends up in another country.

I do believe Trump is working on that aspect.
However even if buying patterns have not eliminated buying from foreign sources the patterns were the same at the time of the last tax cuts. The federal tax haul went up substantially nonetheless.
