Senate GOP dismayed by Trump, Zelensky war of words

Public comments from President Trump blaming Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for Russia’s invasion of his country are unnerving Senate Republicans, who have largely sought to avoid conflicts with the White House.

Trump’s escalating war of words with the Ukrainian leader comes as hawks in both parties plead with the president not to give Moscow a free pass in talks to end the bitter three-year conflict.

“I’m concerned with anything that would ultimately allow there to be a moral equivalency between Zelensky and Putin,” said Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), who visited Ukraine alongside a pair of Senate Democrats over the weekend and toured parts of suburban Kyiv that have been ravaged by fighting.

He also pushed back on Trump’s criticism of Zelensky on Wednesday, when he took to Truth Social and called the Ukrainian president a “dictator without elections” who was doing a “terrible job.”

“Zelensky is frustrated, but he’s also been the right head of state for the time. He’s kept a nation together focused on Russian occupiers, and I think we should give them a fair amount of credit for that work,” Tillis said.

Tillis cannot help himself...

Others mentioned in the Article:

Susan Collins (Maine)

Kennedy (LA)

John Thune (R-S.D.)

And of course Sen. Lindesy Graham (R-S.C.) who Zelensky spoke to on the phone it says.

They’re fanning themselves and clutching pearls as we speak.

Which one is the “boy” in that relationship? Do they take turns?

Remarkably low levels of support from the Party.

I have been a supporter of Ukraine for far longer than the pop culture “issue of the day” war... mainly because of personal connections made several years ago. But my support is primarily for the PEOPLE, not the politicians. Indeed, while I didn’t come up with this, it seems a legit analysis of the situation:

UKRAINE: We need money!
USA (Democrats): Here’s billions.
UKRAINE: We need more money!
USA (Democrats): Here’s billions more.
UKRAINE: We need more money!
USA (Democrats): Here’s billions more.
UKRAINE: We need more money!
USA (Democrats): Here’s billions more.
- - - TRUMP ENTERS OFFICE - - -
UKRAINE: We need more money!
USA (MAGA): No more money.
USA (MAGA): Where is what we gave?
UKRAINE: Gone! 50% of it?
USA (MAGA): We need to find peace.
UKRAINE: We don’t want peace.
UKRAINE: We want more money!
EUROPE: Why are you calling us?
UKRAINE: We don’t want peace.
UKRAINE: We want more money!
EUROPE: ...
USA (MAGA): We need to find peace.
UKRAINE: We want more money!
USA (Democrats): Trump loves Putin!

So we would rather be principled and have more people die in the war?

Kennedy is a huge Ukraine supporter. A couple of times they had him go on Fox to provide cover. It was as uncomfortable as I’ve ever seen him. He’s good on most things, but Tuberville he ain’t.

I agree. One is a statesman and a man’s of gravity and intellect. The other is a Nazi dictator and a clown before that.

So Lindsey is now channeling General Mark Milley? Seems like it!

Is the implication they are on the take from lucrative favors for friends over there? As with China (I won’t mention Mitch—oops, I just did.)

Like the ones who want illegals to serve as informal slave labor to line their pockets with cash in labor intensive businesses? Give them a driver’s license so they can start a job for them. US workers? Better luck next time.

Imagine on a reboot of Star Trek the face of Milley and the face of Graham will eerily morph into each other back and forth as a woman crew member screams.

Ukraine is the money train. There’s no doubt that the Republicans are in on this just as much as the rats.

They simply get their ‘news’ from USAID (via CNN) and don’t think it’s worth the time to try to find out if they’re getting played.

THANKFULLY, Trump knew enough to understand that when it comes to geopolitics, Tulsi is, BY FAR, the smartest in the room. But even beyond her, Vance, of course is brilliant, Hegseth has most of it figured out, and even RFK is on to them.

Here is the scenario.

A budget bill is crafted in the House and to the amazement of many, it passes with no Dem votes.

The Senate notices it has no money for Ukraine. They send it back to the House. The House adds money, but not much. They send it to the Senate.

The Senate adds money to it for Ukraine and sends it back to the House. The House passes it and the Senate does too. The Debt Ceiling deadline approaches. There is about a week left.

Trump looks at it and vetoes it.

Which is more likely at that point. Veto over-ride or erase the Ukraine money and re-pass everything under the pressure of the Debt Ceiling so that Trump will sign?

“Thune is worse than McConnell”

That’s a big hill to climb.

I’m not seeing it yet.

Tom Daschle’s replacement is coming up short?
