Retired Lt. Col. Harry Stewart Jr, a decorated World War II pilot who broke racial barriers as a Tuskegee Airmen and earned honors for his combat heroism, has died. He was 100.
Stewart was one of the last surviving combat pilots of the famed 332nd Fighter Group also known as the Tuskegee Airmen. The group were the nation’s first Black military pilots.
The Tuskegee Airmen National Historical Museum confirmed his death. The organization said he passed peacefully at his home in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, on Sunday.
Stewart earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for downing three German aircraft during a dogfight on April 1, 1945. He was also part of a team of four Tuskegee Airmen who won the U.S. Air Force Top Gun flying competition in 1949, although their accomplishment would not be recognized until decades later.

RIP....
Now he doesn’t need an airplane to soar above the clouds.
Rest in Peace, Sir, and JOB WELL DONE!..................
There was a movie that came out around 1995 called “The Tuskegee Airmen.” The movie dealt with the racism they encountered but focused much more on their courage and heroism. Really an excellent production and highly recommended.
The Greatest Generation is pretty much gone. I hope to God that we,as a nation, learn from their examples.
I know a WWII vet who will be 105 in June. Back in 98 he pulled out a prescription pill bottle from his pocket and took one. I asked him what are those, and he said nitroglycerin pills for my heart. Still lives at home. There is your health tip for today!
(Yes Sir!)
Attention!!!!!......Hand Salute!!!!!!!!!!!!
RIP....
One of them was my high school physics teacher. An absolute first class man in every way. And ran a great class.
No matter what, if you were late, or didn’t turn in an assignment, he didn’t care. Paramedics could have returned you to the room and vouched for where you were.
“That is a GREAT excuse!. And what is an excuse? It is a reason I cannot rely on you!”
Maddening back then, lol. What a guy. Didn’t bend an inch from standards.
Wow
“On Easter Sunday, April 1, 1945, he shot down three enemy German Focke-Wulf 190s during a B-24 bomber escort mission near Linz”
190s were no small thing.
Whoa—WOW!!
RIP, Lt. Col. Stewart. Thank you for your service, sir.
Rest In Peace, Harry and thank you for your service to our country.

I am surprised that there were even three work planes left by April 1, 1945. The war in Europe ended 27 days later.
PDJT should go to the funeral.
He should, especially after that BS about the Air Force cutting out teaching about the Tuskegee Airmen.
The record of their successes flying in WWII is incrediblde!
This is the “Black” history that should be taught. These men faced incredible odds to serve our country. They are the true Heroes and their story is not told enough.
Part of an amazing group.
Hate seeing good people grow old and pass on.
We still need them, in the mainstream...
