MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. – At least three wildfires have ignited near North Carolina towns that were devastated by Hurricane Helene.

As of Thursday morning, the Crooked Creek Fire in McDowell County has burned an estimated 250 acres and is now 55% contained. Emergency crews said they made significant progress overnight as winds diminished and relative humidity increased, leading to lower fire activity.

The evacuation order for the affected areas has been lifted, allowing residents to safely return to their homes. Emergency personnel will remain on-site throughout the day to monitor the situation and ensure further containment of the fire.

There have been no injuries or fatalities reported. However, one home has sustained damage, and multiple outbuildings have been destroyed, fire officials said.

Fires of the newly homeless? I’m assuming this isn’t high-$$$ real estate, like HI and LA.

Somebody certainly seems determined to utterly destroy those meddlesome 88% Trump voters.

Weird coincidence that this comes right after he goes to be with them.

But hey, conspiracy theory nut, right?

The land itself probably not. But it’s been speculated that the minerals underneath it are worth millions

Exactly.

Never seen mud burn without a volcano involved.

Social media is full of boots on the ground reports of horrifically understated death tolls but the
Glowies pop up disputing what the cadaver teams, volunteers and construction crews are seeing with their own lying eyes.

Medical teams telling of hundreds and thousands of body bags brought in.

Seems odd for a “ couple hundred” deaths.

Also people sharing screen shots of “ offers to buy their properties “.

Literally the day after my house fire, I started getting text messages same as those and now they snail mail me endless offers to this day.

Damn vultures.

The term wildfires is being misused here just as the term Serial killer is misused.

These fires will burn themselves out pretty quickly and probably only spreading because there is just nobody in the area to put them out. Also NC firefighters have access to water resources.

Serial killers are not just people who kill multiple people, but killers who kill with a specific underlying obsessive reason, ie. John Wayne Gacy, Jeffrey Dalmer.

Andrew Cunaan was not a serial killer per se, most of his victims were to cover up his first killing or for escape purposes.

There is said to be a vast lithium deposit nearby, not to mention the only supply of quartz of high enough purity to serve as a feed stock for semiconductor silicon.

There was mineral speculation around the area so take that for what you will in regards to high $$$ real estate.

The several inches of snow from last week has barely melted so the ground should still be pretty damp. We only got an inch or 2 in east Georgia and our ground is still soggy enough to leave foot imprints in the dirt. I can’t imagine a fire would get much traction in WNC.
