President Donald Trump said on Friday that he wants Los Angeles and California to fulfill two requirements before he offers federal support to wildfire-devastated areas in the state.
“I want to see two things in Los Angeles. Voter ID, so that the people have a chance to vote, and I want to see the water be released and come down into Los Angeles and throughout the state,” Trump told reporters in North Carolina.
Trump is slated to visit the Los Angeles area on Friday after visiting western North Carolina, which was devastated by Hurricane Helene in late September 2024. Parts of Los Angeles were destroyed this month in several wildfires that spread rapidly, leaving dozens of people dead and thousands of structures burned to the ground.
“Those are the two things. After that, I will be the greatest president that California has ever seen,” he said of the aid.
Earlier this week, the president told Fox News that he would consider withholding aid to California over the state’s water issues. He suggested that California’s water and fire issues were due to state mismanagement.
“I don’t think we should give California anything until they let water flow down,” he said, adding that Gov. Gavin Newsom has “got one thing he can do,” which is to “release the water that comes from the north.”

It not the ballots, it the lack of any ID verification. We have a simple system in GA. You have to submit a picture of your id along with your ballot request

Releasing the water seems like a reasonable condition for disaster aid. Changing the voting process would be a good thing, but withholding aid to get that done isn’t a great idea.
The ONLY reason NOT to SHOW ID to VOTE is so they can CHEAT!!! VOTE FRAUD IS WHAT THIS IS ABOUT!!

Seems to me that if there is serious misuse of govt funds going on. For a long time now. That the federal funds suppliers must have proof that those seeking federal funds have been elected by the people

With all due respect, Mr. President, we need more conditions than that. We need nuclear power plants built to reduce our costs of electricity and we need desalination plants to ensure we always have plenty of water - we can even supply both water and electricity to Arizona and Nevada and New Mexico if they need it.
What about requring that clearing brush (wildfire fuel) be allowed for a change? There would still be the threat of wildfires even with the water restored, otherwise. I think clearing the brush is the first, most crucial requirement for that prevention. What am I missing here?

You need way more that is true but as is the voter ID condition is going to send the left into orbit.
