When Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) met with key Democrats last month to make her case to help lead a committee that will be critical in countering President-elect Donald Trump, she faced sharp questions from members of her party.
As Ocasio-Cortez lobbied the powerful Steering Committee that decides panel assignments, Rep. Linda T. Sánchez (D-California) pressed her on her past decisions to endorse primary challengers against Democratic incumbents. Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), one of the incumbents Ocasio-Cortez tried to defeat, followed up by asking why Democrats should elevate her given her previous animosity toward her less-liberal colleagues, according to two people who attended the meeting but spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a private gathering.
Ocasio-Cortez, 35, didn’t apologize as she made her case to become the top Democrat on the high-profile House Oversight Committee. She did, however, tell her colleagues that she had “matured” and understood that a leadership role required additional responsibilities to support the whole caucus. She promised not to try defeating her colleagues. She’s a team player now and will help them win, she said, according to the two meeting attendees.
*** But not all Democrats are bought in, skeptical that her brand is the right one. Some said Ocasio-Cortez puts her own interests before those of the party. Others view some of her stances, including those on immigration and defunding the police, as damaging to Democrats and blame her for pushing policy positions that alienate moderate voters.
The next phase of Ocasio-Cortez’s career — which many expect could include her running for Senate, governor or even president — will depend on whether she can harness her star power and massive social media following to achieve political goals...

” ... even president”
This is why Oliver North referred to it as the Compost.
You can spread it with a silage fork: hog feed or fertilizer.
After Hillary, then Kamala I doubt (even) dim donors will willingly climb onto another Bird brain bandwagon.
Compared to CA’s leaders esp sociopathic Gavin Newsom, deranged Adam Schiff, and disassociated Karen Bass- I can at least stomach AOC and Bernie Sanders as valid contributors to the Left despite all the intellectual foolishness they spew.
So now the Democrat party is passing its torch on to a bartender.
The Democratic Party base, its youth and migrants, are further to the left. They're not interested in "reaching across the aisle." They want revolution and don't mind burning it all down to get it.
Logical step from a drunk.
At least Adam Clayton Powell Jr. had the decency to stay in Harlem.
As long as her and the squad are perceived as the faces of the party the democrats will continue to lose
Don’t the Republicans get final say on who’s on the committee? Like Liz Cheney?
Those are the whitest teeth anyone ever came across!
AOC is not intelligent like Newsom. She makes crazy statements, but her supporters love her.
There is a real, serious movement for her to run for POTUS in 2028.
She will be defeated because she is not intelligent enough to lead competently....and if we can keep the issue of competent leadership (using California as an example) then we can defeat any of them in 2028.
From an intellectual standpoint, she’s one of their sharpest.
It really only depends on how much (or not) Nancy Pelosi likes her. She’s certainly not of the Democrat Elite like Nancy et al.
We ought to be encouraging Occasional Cortex to go for it in 2028! Maybe she’s emboldened that Newscum can’t get the nomination now that LA is on fire and continues to burn.
He not exactly “dead in the water”, more like “dead in the reservoir that HAS no water” to fight fires.
Don’t know how he can recover from this major catastrophe.
Nope. It will depend on whether she can keep from gaining more weight.
It was AOC who discovered how to land a spaceship on the sun—it has to be done at night.
What the WP is really saying is they’ve seen the new Nancy and are not impressed and so they are taking a second look at AoC.
