Frigid air that normally stays trapped in the Arctic has escaped, plunging deep into the United States for an extended visit that is expected to provoke teeth-chattering but not be record-shattering.

It’s a cold air outbreak that some experts say is happening more frequently, and paradoxically, because of a warming world.

Seth is a bonehead. It's not "global warming". The instability of the polar vortex is a consequence of earth's diminishing magnetic field. It's a periodic geophysical cycle at work. Nothing at all to do with the inhabitants on the surface.

But at a minimum they might want to look into the concept of equilibrium. If temperatures going up causes temperatures to go down, then there doesn’t seem to be much to worry about.

I am in Calvary cemetery in Maspeth Queens right now. The temperature is at 24 degrees. This is easily par for the course for winter in my experience going back to 1982. As for trapped arctic air I seem to recall animations put on during weather forecasts that show it sweeping down and freezing our asses go internet back to the same year.
