United States Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy issued a warning to Americans on Friday about the link between alcohol and cancer.
Murthy’s advisory outlines the direct link between the beverage and increased cancer risk, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The news release continued:
The Surgeon General’s Advisory includes a series of recommendations to increase awareness to help minimize alcohol-related cancer cases and deaths, including updating the existing Surgeon General’s health warning label on alcohol-containing beverages.
“Alcohol is a well-established, preventable cause of cancer responsible for about 100,000 cases of cancer and 20,000 cancer deaths annually in the United States – greater than the 13,500 alcohol-associated traffic crash fatalities per year in the U.S. – yet the majority of Americans are unaware of this risk,” said U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy. “This Advisory lays out steps we can all take to increase awareness of alcohol’s cancer risk and minimize harm.”
The press release also stated that the “direct link between alcohol consumption and cancer risk is well-established for at least seven types of cancer including cancers of the breast, colorectum, esophagus, liver, mouth (oral cavity), throat (pharynx), and voice box (larynx),” regardless of the type of alcohol a person drinks.

You, sir have just won the internet.
If this were true then Nancy and Hillary would have had cancer a long time ago.
It is time to stop treating Americans as children!
Stop with putting warning labels on everything.
10 years sober here. There have been more recent studies showing alcoholic promotes insulin resistance and may contribute to metabolic disorders. The problem is the type of beverage (wine vs. liquor vs. beer) and the volume consumed. Some people can limit themselves to a glass of wine with dinner, but as a recovering alcoholic, “one drink” wasn’t part of my vocabulary. Ever.
“I have yet to hear of anything that doesn’t cause cancer.”

“I think moderation is almost always the key.”
I agree, but my moderation is not someone else’s.
All drugs carry a danger of some sort.
Face it people, everyone that has drank water will die.
Everyone of us tries to put death off for as long as possible,
but what do you sacrifice in quality of life to lengthen life?
That is a choice each individual must make.
A few Tylenol a day will do as much damage to your liver as a 5th of whiskey per day. Will that kill you? Probably not.
I’d take a pass on both, only Beer and aspirin for me.
My point is y’all do what works best for you and ignore the busy-bodies that always want to tell you how they think you should live your life.
Listen to them, but judge for yourself.
>> I think moderation is almost always the key
I totally believe in moderation in all things — including moderation.
“The press release also stated that the “direct link between alcohol consumption and cancer risk is well-established for at least seven types of cancer including cancers of the breast, colorectum, esophagus, LIVER, mouth (oral cavity), throat (pharynx), and voice box (larynx),” regardless of the type of alcohol a person drinks.” My Mother died at 69 from liver cancer, never drank alcohol.
Genetics is the most important thing.
True, have you ever seen a rabbit wearing glasses?
I’m drunk right now and cancer free.
Everyone in Ireland and France and Russia should be dead. 😏
“True, have you ever seen a rabbit wearing glasses?”
Never.
I thank the LORD that I have never had a taste for liquor or drugs. I’m 73; I’ve probably had not more than 5 drinks in my life. (I’m not bragging; I have other vices). My dearly departed sister was a raging alcoholic from the age of 13! When she became a Christian, at age 27, she was instantly delivered from alcohol, a true miracle. Never touched another drop, nor even wanted one from then on.
God Bless
And the next Surgeon General is a Fauci-loving, vax-pushing, mask-pushing Barbie doll. How much money did she donate to Trump’s campaign?
Appointed bt Biden, so no.
