A Syrian airplane took off from Damascus airport around the time the capital was reported to have been taken by Syria’s rebels, according to data from the Flightradar website, suggesting ousted president Bashar al-Assad may have been onboard.
The aircraft initially flew towards Syria’s coastal region, a stronghold of Assad’s Alawite sect, but then made an abrupt U-turn and flew in the opposite direction for a few minutes before disappearing off the map.….

I think they just turned off the transponder...although, it WAS an Ilyushin...
This story has been on X for 7 hours. Daylight has come to Syria. Someone should at least have looked into the area for wreckage by now. I suspect it’s a deliberate fake out.
Could be.
The aircraft did lose a lot of altitude just before disappearing.
Probably on his way to the Vineyard. Bin Laden already working as the gardener but Assad may take up the handy-man position at Obama’s place.
Who cares? Syria has been a cesspool for 50+ years, and won’t change anytime soon.
There was a rumor on X that an S-300 missile was fired from the Russians on the coast and took down the plane.
I guess that’s gonna save the Russians from having to deal with that guy for 20 years.
If he didn’t die in the plane crash, he’ll be beheaded byu the rebels after they capture him
Damascus is surrounded
Good riddance to a murderous monster ... the vast bad karma he created finally caught up to him
If we’re lucky, this will be a preview of what will happen to another murderous dictator, Putin ... good riddance!!
I won’t believe it until it’s featured in the British tabloids.
The US and Israel know.
Either the rebels will behead him or the US will capture him and turn him over to Israel to face trial.
Dropping below the RADAR is one of the ploys a pilot would use to “disappear”.
So far, it’s all guesses and, these days, we have too many folks deliberately trying to steer public opinion in directions that benefits those who hire them to do so - what ever happened to waiting for data to be verified before starting masses conversing to “cover all the angles”?
Careful what you wish for. Arabs can only be governed by an iron fist and it’s better that it is a secular dictator than religious muslim fanatics.
“ Dropping below the RADAR is one of the ploys a pilot would use to “disappear”.
While that certainly is a possibility, I don’t know how wise it is to fly toward and over enemy held territory at below radar altitude and expose yourself to potential ground fire when there does not appear to be a logical reason to do so.
As I said in my initial comment, this is a “maybe dead, maybe not” scenario.

“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property – either as a child, a wife, or a concubine – must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the faith: all know how to die but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome.”

Ding dong the witch is dead, replaced by ..... an even worse witch.
(Just my assumption, although one cannot help being a little bit happy for the Syrians who, at least for a day, are not living under fascist oppression.)
Assad was not better than the Saudi rulers in Saudi Arabia. He was much, much worse. So FAIL on that claim.
Canadians can't deal with freedom. They need progressive authoritarian rule, and can't be trusted to own guns. They need to all be disarmed by the King's agents.
Wheeee!! See how fun this is!
