Iran Evacuating Military in Syria as Rebels Advance: Report
Newsweek ^ | Dec 06, 2024 | Aila Slisco

Iran has reportedly started to withdraw troops from Syria as advancing rebel forces threaten to topple the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, according to The New York Times.

Syrian insurgents took control of the central city of Hama following the retreat of government forces on Thursday, just days after rebels captured most of Aleppo, Syria's second largest city.

Evacuations were initiated on Friday for commanders and personnel from the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force, according to Iranian officials and regional commanders cited in the Times report. Diplomatic staff serving at the Iranian Embassy in Damascus were also reportedly being evacuated.

"Iran is starting to evacuate its forces and military personnel because we cannot fight as an advisory and support force if Syria's army itself does not want to fight," Iranian analyst Mehdi Rahmati told the news outlet. "Iran has realized that it cannot manage the situation in Syria right now with any military operation and this option is off the table."

Then, it’s over.

ISIS and Turkey (a NATO Member) take Syria.

OMFG.

Hezbollah is finished, therefore.

After tens of thousands die in the fighting.

ISIS’s disposition towards Israel will not be an improvement in the long run.

Holy Shiite!

A couple questions here. Refugees will flee to Lebanon? I don't think they're going to stay around for Islamist Syria.

At some point, Turkey is going to attack the Kurds in Syria.

Hezbollah is finished, therefore.

That's only because Israel took out their leadership.

There's no one to lead their foot soldiers. You can't lead an army without any officers.

US intelligence agencies were caught off guard, it would seem.

Not good.

“Then, it’s over”

Yup. If Iran is giving up there’s no hope for the regime. Its time to run for the borders. Also the Russians will need to run too.

There won’t be much of a fight in Damascus. It’ll be similar to Tripoli when the rebels took over Libya.

Israel was obligated to decapitate Hezbollah. A democracy cannot accept 60,000 internally displaced refugees because of 100,000-ish Iranian built or funded rockets. These are the nasty results.

What pieces of silver did DC bribe Erdogan with? I’ll give you odds Turkey will finally have its F-35s.

We’ve seen this movie before. Incredibly, your memory fails you again. Turn the channel back to the Caliphate of 2015. Write this down. This ill conceived gambit will blow up in DC’s face AGAIN.

Fortunately, the Russians and Iranians will be there again to help put the CIA/Mossad terrorist genie back into bottle. That will happen after the CIA/Mossad jihadist terrorists have raped and beheaded Syria back to seventh century again.

We needed Turkey during the Cold War to keep the Soviets bottled up.

Russia today isn’t nearly the threat that the Soviets were. Until the late 80s the USSR was the world’s #2 economy.

We don’t need entanglements with the Turks anymore.

If you’ve had to deal with them you’d understand Vlad the Impaler.

There are no good guys North of the Golan.

Assad isn't a good guy but he protected the Christian minority in Syria. So if he's history...

Totally agree.

Get Turkey out of NATO.

Turkey is an adversary of Western Civilization.

Get Turkey out of NATO.

We won't do that because we'll like to keep Russia boxed in. If we kick Turkey out, they'll become closer to Russia.

You think Russia will leave their port in Syria? Tartus? Are they leaving?
