The US and the United Arab Emirates have discussed with each other the possibility of lifting sanctions on Syrian President Bashar Assad if he peels himself away from Iran and cuts off weapons routes to Lebanon’s Hezbollah, five people familiar with the matter tell Reuters.
The conversations intensified in recent months, the sources say, driven by the possible expiry on Dec. 20 of sweeping US sanctions on Syria and by Israel’s campaign against Tehran’s regional network, including Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Gaza and Iranian assets in Syria.
The discussions took place before anti-Assad rebels swept into Aleppo last week in their biggest offensive in Syria for years.
According to the sources, the new rebel advance is a signal of precisely the sort of weakness in Assad’s alliance with Iran that the Emirati and US initiative aims to exploit. But if Assad embraces Iranian help for a counter-offensive, that could also complicate efforts to drive a wedge between them, the sources say.
Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi visited Syria on Sunday in a show of support for Assad, and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan spoke to Assad by phone about the latest developments over the weekend.
I’m an okay smart guy, and I know most of the players, but I’m having a really hard time following quite what’s going on here.
There are many, many entities in Syria. Some of the main ones are Russia, China, and all kinds of Jihadists. The Al Queda, ISIS, Salafist, etc seem to change their names, but always remain radical.
If Assad were for one minute contemplate, explore turning away from his long-term benefactors, very, very quickly he would assume room temperature, begin his eternal dirt nap.
Turkey, the islamicist member of NATO, wants to expand into Syria in a land grab and utilized our other “ally” Ukraine to train troops and to lead the. Into battle and widen the Ukraine War into a world war.
Its part of the new Cold War and new US-Russia-China proxy war
Remember George Bush effectively gave Iran to Iraq, when it “liberated” Iraq’s majority Shia population. Syria is the bridge for Iran to connect with Lebanon and Hezbollah, and Russia and Iran support Assad in Syria. Iran’s influence stretches all the way from Afghanistan’s border to the Mediterranean. It’s like the ancient Greeks vs. the Persians.
The US/UK and Israel certainly don’t like that. US/UK/Israel and UAE fund and support Sunni Islamist groups to fight Assad (a minority Alawite) and the Shia.
Remaining Christians in Syria generally support Assad, because he himself is a religious minority, protects them, and generally is a secularist. If the CIA-backed “Islamists” take over, any remaining Christians will be slaughtered
Turkey also wants a piece of North Syria, so it can have its influence, and kill and control the Kurds.

Turkey doesn’t need Ukraine to “train troops”, or anything else - where do you get that? Turkey has lots of troops (750,000 plus millions of reservists), and was always far better armed than Ukraine. Turkey has been training its own troops for many generations. Moreover its got the financial support of the Saudis and the Gulf.
The Ukrainians have been training the “rebels,” it was right there to reads.
“Rebels” not Turks.
This is an action by the Biden Regime to widen the war.
Here’s what’s going on here:
- Assad is a secular Alawite (they say they are Muslims, but if you dig deeper, you see that they believe in reincarnation, that the universe is eternal, they have a version of the trinity) and leads a government that treats Christians, Druze, Shia, Sunni, Alawites all equally (meaning “follow me and I don’t care your religion, otherwise you die”)
- Syria is a multi-religious, multi-ethnic state that is under threat from Sunni extremists
- to prevent those Sunni extremists, the Assads have Druze and Alawites in the military and have alliances with secular Sunni and with the Shia militia - Hizb’allah.
- they mouth support for the Palestinians to keep the Sunnis happy
- they rely on the Shia power - Iran - to keep the Sunnis from creating an Islamic state.
- if Assad is to replace Iran, he needs another power that can help him against the Sunni extremists.
The USA is not trusted enough to do so as they are in bed with the font of Sunni extremism - Saudi Arabia. And they gave up Ghaddafi etc.
Assad has literally only two choices: exist or ally with Iran+Hezbollah+Russia
You know it’s because of the west playing these Game of Thrones style games, that we are where we are today.
Try to tell me again that this attack on Syria, which is a Russian ally, by Turkey - a member of NATO, in conjunction with Ukrainian special forces, isn’t the creation and of new front in the Ukrainian War to ease pressure on the Ukraine front. That being said, I see Russias hand in the attacks on Israel though it my have been Hamas’ own stupid idea.
WW3 is fast approaching, if not already here.
This is the Biden Regime warning the war via Turkey and Ukraine. There is nothing more to it.
