Ukraine has carried out its first strike on Russian territory with US-supplied long-range missiles just days after the Biden administration gave Kyiv the green light despite fears it could escalate the conflict beyond control.
A fiery explosion at an ammunition depot in Karachev around 75 miles from the Ukrainian border in Russia's Bryansk region lit up the night sky early this morning on what is the 1,000th day of war in Ukraine.
Eyewitnesses along with Russian and Ukrainian military bloggers first reported the attack, with anonymous Ukrainian military officials later telling RBC Ukraine the strike was conducted with the US-manufactured ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System)
Kyiv is yet to officially confirm the ATACMS strike, but Russia's Defence Ministry claimed they shot down five missiles. A sixth missile was damaged but ultimately landed on the military facility, it said.
The reports emerged within minutes of the Kremlin threatening a 'nuclear response' should Ukraine hit targets on Russian soil with Western-supplied long-range munitions.
'The Russian Federation reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in the event of aggression against it with the use of conventional weapons,' Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters in Russia this morning.
His statement followed Vladimir Putin's approval of an updated nuclear doctrine that allows his strategic forces to deploy nuclear weapons if Russian or Belarusian territory is threatened by a non-nuclear nation supported by a nuclear power.
Threats that could make Russia's leadership consider a nuclear strike include an attack with conventional missiles, drones or other aircraft, according to the updated document.
A Ukrainian strike on Russian territory with US-supplied missiles meets these criteria, raising fears that Moscow may now consider a dramatic escalation in the conflict.

Anyone here live close?
🚨 Vladimir Putin’s nuclear targets mapped: The 14 US locations in Russia’s crosshairs 🚨
Putin claimed that his new RS-28 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile is ready for the Russian military to use.
Also known as the Satan-II, it measures 116 feet in length, weighs 220 tonnes, and reportedly has a range of a range of 6,200 to 11,180 miles.
The Pentagon
The Pentagon is perhaps the most obvious target. Located in Arlington, Virginia, it is the headquarters for the US Department of Defense.
Naval Station Norfolk
The US and the world’s largest Navy base, located in Norfolk, Virginia. It has the highest concentration of US Navy forces. Around 100,000 air operations are carried out here yearly, equivalent to almost 300 a day.
Comfort Suites Kings Bay Naval Base Area
Another clear target as it is the base of the United States Navy, located in Camden County, Georgia.
Barksdale Air Force Base
Barksdale is a United States Air Force Base in Bossier Parish, Louisiana. The base is home to the US’ 2nd Bomb Wing.
Whiteman Air Force Base
Located near Knob Noster, Missouri, the base is home to the US’ B-2 Spirit bomber - a heavy strategic bomber plane.
United States Strategic Command
Another potential key target for the Russians. It is responsible for the US’ nuclear deterrence and cyber defense among other key roles.

VLF Array Lualualei
A facility in Lualualei, Hawaii, that communicates military orders to submarines underwater.
Kirtland Air Force Base
Home to the Air Force Materiel Command’s Nuclear Weapons Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
21st Force Support Squadron
This is the US’ Space Force unit based at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado.
Warren Air Force Base
An Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and one of three strategic-missile bases.
Minot Air Force Base
Based in Minot, North Dakota, it is home to the US’ 5th Bomb Wing. The force is used to maintain and operate B-52H bombers.
Hill Air Force Base
Home of the Air Force Materiel Command, housing a variety of missiles, aircraft, and other military technology. Located in Davis County, Utah
Malmstrom Air Force Base
Located in Cascade County, Montana, and home of the 341st Missile Wing - an intercontinental missile unit.

Biden’s November surprise - WWIII.
What I don’t get is why the American made missiles are more feared than the Ukranian drones that effectively fly further and take out refineries all over Russia?
The threat is inappropriate.
Russia hits targets deep inside Ukraine. Ukraine hitting Russia back inside it’s territory is NOT inappropriate.
The only perceived escalation is who supplied the missiles. Which is no small point, I agree.
Suggesting that tactical nukes are an appropriate response is not only reckless, but begs the question; Why can’t Ukraine use tactical nukes.
Once you frame the situation in those terms, it’s obvious who would be stepping things up toward WWiii here. Russia would.
I personally don’t think they want that. As bad as things might be in Russia, and as much as Putin might be a wild and crazy guy, I don’t think they want to commit suicide.
If Putin used nukes first (even tactical ones), that would unify the whole World against Russia, probably get the US & Europe closer than ever, and maybe get Euro countries to double their defense spending
So, won’t happen ... Putin is very stupid, but not THAT stupid
🗣 Full text of Vladimir Putin’s statement on the potential U.S. and allied authorization for long-range missile strikes deep into Russia, dated September 12, 2024:
This is not about permitting or prohibiting the Kiev regime from striking Russian territory. They are already doing so with drones and other means. However, when it comes to the use of long-range, high-precision Western-made weapons, it is an entirely different matter.
The fact is—and I have already spoken about this, and any experts, both ours and in the West, will confirm this—that the Ukrainian army is not capable of striking with modern, high-precision, long-range Western-made systems. They cannot do this. This is only possible with the use of satellite intelligence, which Ukraine does not possess. These are data from either European Union or United States satellites, essentially NATO satellites. That is the first point.
The second and perhaps most crucial point is that the flight missions for these missile systems can, in essence, only be programmed by NATO military personnel. Ukrainian military personnel cannot do this. Therefore, the issue is not about permitting or forbidding the Ukrainian regime to strike Russia with these weapons. The issue is whether NATO countries decide to directly participate in the military conflict.
If such a decision is made, it will mean nothing less than the direct involvement of NATO countries, the United States, and European nations in the war in Ukraine. This direct involvement will significantly change the nature of the conflict.
It will mean that NATO countries, the United States, and European nations are at war with Russia. And if that is the case, given the fundamental change in the nature of this conflict, we will make decisions accordingly, based on the threats posed to us.
At some point there is a price to pay.
This is real and something to be feared.
The old-stream media probably has its viewers/readers focused on global warming, white nationalism, rape allegations, etc. Serial myths and slanders.
They are usually reactive when it comes to real danger such as terrorism and war.
Thanks for that
I’ve always thought that was the plan of the Democrats
In 2016 I said here, several times, that the Democrats will start World War III with Russia to “prove” that “Hillary waa telling the truth”
This was after Hillary Clinton’s loss
Only I didn’t use quotes
Long range missiles are useless, without long range targeting. Ukraine relies on US long range targeting. The entire Ukraine government is paid for by the US. Ukraine is a wholly owned subsidiary of the US. Are you down with that?
I’m no Putin apologist but this is going to garner more support for Putin among his people, and among form soviet satellite nations.
It’s very conceivable. Start a war, giving you the right to declare marshal law? Can that be done?
At the very least, they can hand DJT an even BIGGER mess than they are now.
There will be consequences for the use of the missiles. Initially, I expect the use of asymmetrical warfare to attack NATO assets, which will not be directly connected to Russia. NATO will respond with similar attacks and the war will escalate further. Where it ends is anyone’s guess. Unintended consequences are dangerous.
And the Dow is set to open down 500 points. Thanks Joe!
Thanks Joe! Go down in history as the worst President ever. Starting a nuclear war with Russia your last two months in office makes you eligible for Guantanamo.
Wimps will be bed wetting tonight at the mere thought of Putin’s threat.
Why the F does Biden and Nato do this now, when we are roughly 2 months from getting fully functioning adults back in charge.
