P’Nut the Squirrel and Fred the Raccoon did not have rabies, officials announced — as it was revealed the animals were marked for death and decapitation days before they were seized by the state.

The internet famous P’Nut and his raccoon pal were taken from an Upstate New York home by force in a raid by state agents on Oct. 30 that sparked outrage and accusations of government overreach as the pets were euthanized to test for rabies. “Results are negative,” Chemung County Executive Christopher Moss told The Post Tuesday.

A newly revealed timeline shows state officials advised the county to euthanize the pets a full seven days before they were taken from their unofficial caretaker Mark Longo on Oct. 30 — even though the Department of Environmental Conservation later said the squirrel bit an agent during the raid, sparking the need for the test.

A squirrel and a raccoon just may be the tipping point that brought the whole, corrupt house of cards down.

Bureaucrats just wanted to teach the peons a lesson.

Reminds me of the question of how to intimidate the monkeys? Kill a chicken.

Squirrels, mice, and other small rodents have only very rarely been found to have rabies, and have never been known to transmit rabies to humans or other animals. In general, postexposure treatment is not recommended after a bite from one of these animals unless it is unusually vicious or appears obviously ill.

If the jackboot was afraid of rabies he could have taken 4 shots and been okay.

Bureaucrats just wanted to teach the peons a lesson.

Just like when they threw kids out of their schools to house illegals there.

Some peons are slow to learn.

It’s not even that, the jackboots went into it with full intentions to jackboot regardless of bites.
The outcome was already declared beforehand.

Sounds like they lied about TBE bite to cover up the call.

Now why were they trying to cover it up right out of the gate if they didn’t know something was wrong about that order?

Why did they need to get a court order to do something that should first have started with just issuing a notice, and perhaps later, a warning?

Let me get this straight. The story I've heard is that they originally got involved because of an anonymous tip from another state alleging animal abuse. How is killing the animals that are supposedly being abused a proper way to handle that? What's next, getting a tip alleging a mom is spanking her children and responding by planning to shoot the children while storming their home?

That's why I started honoring the former as Saint Peanut the Martyr. :-)

I am wondering if there was a bite at all. There was no reason for them to get instructions from on high to test the squirrel for rabies 7 days prior since at that time nobody has been bit....

Unless whoever requested instructions on how to proceed misled thair bosses.

Maybe there is a personal dispute between the agent and the squirrel owner.

Had something similar happen to one of my employers after they refused to hire a wildlife official’s son.
