Pennsylvania's Ukrainian community could swing the state in the upcoming election
Kyiv Independent ^ | 11/1/24 | Gary Wasserson

I am one of more than 120,000 Pennsylvanians of Ukrainian heritage who will vote on which presidential candidate best serves our interests. Since only 80,000 votes separated the presidential candidates in 2020, our community's vote could be key to deciding who wins Pennsylvania's 19 electoral votes in November: Kamala Harris or Donald Trump.

After watching news of the full-scale invasion, Trump gave Russian President Vladimir Putin a green light by calling his strategic decisions “savvy” and “genius.” When Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky last month, he promised to strike a “rapid deal” to end the war but provided no details. He reportedly said privately that he could end the war by pressuring Ukraine to surrender some territory. Trump has also claimed Ukraine was “demolished” and that “the people are dead.” In his debate with Vice President Harris, Trump twice refused to say whether he wanted Ukraine to win the war.

In contrast, when Harris met with Zelensky last month, she pledged to continue robust U.S. support if she is elected president. Since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, the Biden-Harris administration has allocated nearly $175 billion in emergency assistance to Ukraine.

Unlike Donald Trump, Kamala Harris recognizes that America and other democracies worldwide have a moral and geopolitical interest in preserving the safety of the Ukrainian people, not just ensuring their survival but enabling them to thrive.

I urge my fellow Pennsylvanians and Ukrainian Americans to elect her president.

Dems keep the war going and all the Ukrainians over there will be gone. Why would some clown wish to continue the war? Enough have died. End it.

Trump gave Putin a green light? Biden flat out told Putin it was okay to invade.

Zelinsky and Putin would have negotiated peace if Kamala had not interfered and disallowed it. The blood of a lot of Ukrainians is on Kamala.

If this guy is more concerned with Ukraine than he is concerned for the USA why doesn’t he move there and join the Ukrainian Army and fight for the country he is so concerned about? Just asking.

I remember when Ds mocked “single-issue votees,” ie, people who voted R because of abortion.

I also heard that people were against JFK because they were afraid he would listen to the Vatican over US interests.

These people of Ukrainian descent are *American* now, not Ukrainian. You accept the citizenship of another nation, the protections and other benefits, then you vote in accord with the best interests of the nation you are a citizen of.

I certainly hope that others like this guy are not thinking as he does.

In in fairness to Joe, he did only authorize a little invasion

Given the fact this war would have never even occurred if Trump was still President, voting for Harris would be voting against Ukraine's interests. If they want an end to the conflict that is more favorable to them, they also would never elect Harris.

Help me grasp this...

So, the Ukrainian community in the US, who are themselves unwilling to fight for Ukraine's territorial integrity, are content to support a candidate who'll keep the weapons flowing into Ukraine, ensuring that real Ukrainian citizens are the ones facing… pic.twitter.com/DojPToe2Ag— Anna (@provemewrong411) November 1, 2024

"I am one of more than 120,000 Pennsylvanians of Ukrainian heritage who will vote on which presidential candidate best serve our interests." And whose interests might those be? Guess you didn't understand the part about loyalty to the UnitedStates.

If you want Ukraine to win, feel free to go back and enlist in the fight instead of expecting American taxpayers to do that for you. So tired of people who are American second, whose only interest is in what Americans can do for their ‘home’ country instead of what they can contribute to America.

No, most of those Ukrainians in Pennsylvania will vote for Trump. But the kind of anti-Ukrainian bigotry that is commonly posted by you and other people doesn’t help with efforts to get as many people as possible to vote for Trump.

“...Pennsylvanians of Ukrainian heritage...”

You are either a Pennsylvanian first or a Ukrainian first. Pick which one. You only have one choice. /spit

It shouldn't be hard to understand. Americans who have family and friends in other countries care about what happens there.

Are you equally surprised that Jewish Americans care about what happens to Israel?

If nobody is America should care about what happens in the rest of the world why are you often rooting for Putin?

I really don't believe this. Ukrainians are more economy oriented and I'm sure they don't like seeing their sons and daughters laid to rest. This was a Civil War that grew. And many of the Ukrainians wish they were back under Mother Russia. Here in Upstate New York, the Russians and Ukrainians are heavily integrated through marriage just as it was in Ukraine before the coup.

Put in a damn line...like in Korea and stop this attempt by Ukraine to cleanse Ukraine of anything Russian.
