It was a bone-chilling report. As North Carolinians reeled from the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) suddenly ordered emergency workers "to stand down and evacuate" Rutherford County due to reports of "trucks of armed militias saying they were out hunting FEMA," The Washington Post reported on October 13, based on an email obtained from the U.S. Forest Service...
The threat turned out to be something less serious. ...Through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, Reason has obtained the original email thread about the threat. Forest Service firefighting official Gordy Sachs, quoting a message from FEMA, did indeed write to other officials on October 12 that "Title 10 troops had come across x2 trucks of armed militia saying they were out hunting FEMA." ...
After Parsons' arrest was publicized, the Post updated its story to focus on his alleged threat, and removed the phrase "armed militia" from the headline. As it turns out, U.S. soldiers had called in the threat—after hearing about it secondhand from a gas station cashier....But other news outlets had already start to run with the story...."Trump's Hurricane Lies Spark Terrifying Threat," The New Republic stated, blaming former president Donald Trump.... The Guardian reported that the "politicization" of the hurricane relief effort "has provided a recruitment opportunity for white supremacist groups"... The Daily Beast featured a photo of an actual militia...
Reason did witness a militia-like operation near Asheville—but rather than attacking relief workers, the "redneck air force" was cooperating with authorities to run helicopter flights to isolated towns...

Looks like FEMA was the only one disseminating “disinformation.”

IDIOCRACY ABOUNDS and is spreading. Any excuse, whether real or imagined, is enough to cease help to Americans in Trump country.
During Katrina, there were rumors spread about people firing on helicopters.
I suspect when the helicopter buzzed the supply camp recently that the purpose was so some people would take a few pot shots at it so the feds could go to the “violent redneck” lie.
Sometimes the right acts foolish. But the drama queens on the left are just scary stupid.
We saw this reporting here on FR by some of our more impressionable posters.
“”FEMA deployed 3,500 armed personnel to storm-ravaged North Carolina, particularly Asheville, which took the brunt of Helene’s biblical devastation. True to form, FEMA’s massive convoys and flights carried no relief supplies and no medicine, only crates of automatic rifles, steel canisters packed with limitless ammunition to wage a bloody war against storm-torn refugees and their property.””
“FEMA dispatched the equivalent of three US ARMY battalions to the Blue Ridge Mountains, having equipped them for a protracted conflict.”
“he had witnessed FEMA agents gun down a neighbor who refused to vacate his flooded house. The same resident, a 36-year-old lithium miner, said, “There are bodies everywhere; I saw dozens floating in the water, bullet holes in all of them. I’m lucky to have made it out.”
Given FEMA’s lengthy history of terrorizing and murdering storm victims, an important question must be asked”
“The caller was none other than the man known as Col. Kurtz, the enigmatic leader of the Red Hats, who said his men had arrived in Chimney Rock and were fighting a pitched battle against FEMA and FBI agents trying to lay claim to the area’s vast lithium deposits. Kurtz told Gen. Smith he had lost 12 men the night previous, as Red Hats fought to stop marauding FEMA agents from fortifying their position. He said his men “took out” two helicopters that tried to insert more FEMA agents near the now-flooded Great Woodland Adventure Trail.”
“Thursday evening, US Marines arrived by choppers and ground vehicles in Asheville and Chimney Rock, where, as their helos hovered above clouds of green smoke—the internationally recognized symbol for a safe landing zone—Red Hats had just hosed down a throng of FEMA agents.
At the same time, US Special Forces out of Camp Liberty ambushed FEMA personnel who had blockaded Asheville Regional Airport, destroying 15 FEMA vehicles and killing 23 agents equipped with everything from sidearms to rifles to squad automatic weapons. Four valiant Special Forces died to gunfire, our source said”
I applied for FEMA. Simple and easy
I went to Nationwide. My agent dismissed me!! She casually gave me a 800 number to call. I am deaf and could not understand the recording.
I am exhausted from this Helene business...
My compaint is with Nationwide, not FEMA. AND I HAVE BEEN WITH NATIONWIDE FOR SIXTY YEARS
Is there a bag limit? Season? What?
FEMA just needed a reason not to work. A bunch of cowards
Oh yeah, they must continue their narrative

LOL. The FEMA boogieman has arisen again. I worked at a supposed FEMA concentration camp back in the early 2000’s. It was a parking lot with travel trailers on it and couldn’t have have stopped a child from walking in or out of it. I had to laugh when I read about how FEMA was going to use that place to inter political dissenters. What a joke.
I miss the guys telling us about the internment camps being built on top of the Walmarts.
Yep there were some pretty tall tales being told around here. I hope that most folks took those stories with a grain of salt. The funniest thing that a lot of people here would not believe was that most of the FEMA guys I worked with were hardcore conservative ex cops or ex military.
What exactly was FEMA supposed to be doing exactly ????? They are not, nor have they ever been in the search and rescue business nor are they in the giving people food, water and clothing business either. It seems to me that people are blaming them for not doing things they were never supposed to do in the first place.
a 12yo might believe Chimney Rock stories, but a simple filmed hike from 3 wks ago shows the roads were gone/impassible to ground vehicles; nobody was getting in (see about 7 minutes in for commentary with a local):

This was an obvious DHS propaganda campaign. Brave FEMA workers battle redneck militias in disaster zone. What a crock. Biden-Harris were a day late and a dollar short helping the folks in NC as usual. Maybe if FEMA hadn’t been rotted out by DEI, they would have done better.
I had seen that video and that guy is a superb video reporter, it is an excellent video with almost non of himself.
Dude, was that SARCASM someone posted?
Some wackjob FEMALE pastor complained to local media here in East TN that a group from NC was distributing supplies to locals in distress, and had gotten into a verbal disagreement with FEMA reps. Natch, the local communist media sided with this ‘pastor’ against the local mountain folk. Bad move. The woman being targeted went back to the media to defend herself, and she did a damn good job. Of course, the local media had no follow up...who was this ‘pastor’? Who was this organization she was associated with? WHY was she even there in the FIRST place?
