Vice President Kamala Harris has centered her anti-inflation agenda on combatting price gouging, saying corporations are greedy villains padding profits by jacking up prices.
Yet economists and even Ms. Harris say there is scant evidence that price gouging is actually happening.
In a plan largely lacking concrete details, Ms. Harris has called for a federal ban on price gouging and for giving the Federal Trade Commission the power to prosecute companies it deems to have excessively increased prices.
Former President Donald Trump and Republicans slammed the plan as “communist,” warning that it would lead to the federal government telling businesses how to set their prices. Democrats cheered the announcement, calling it a critical check on corporate greed that will lower costs for consumers who have seen grocery store prices increase 21% since President Biden took office.
Economists say the biggest problem with the plan is that there is no evidence that grocery prices have risen because food companies and grocers are price-gouging consumers.
“Harris doesn’t have a good way politically to attack this problem. She needs a scapegoat to blame for rising prices because the actual answer is the [Biden-Harris administration’s] policies are to blame,” said Joshua Hendrickson, an economist at the University of Mississippi.
Since proposing the crackdown, Ms. Harris has twice acknowledged that the problem is not as widespread as her campaign would make voters think. She recently told the Congressional Hispanic Caucus that “very few” companies are engaged in the practice, a line she later repeated during an interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The Federal Reserve Bank of New York issued a report in July concluding that rising grocery store prices were not because of corporate price gouging but rather due to increased operating costs. Instead, it laid the blame on a huge spike in the price of agricultural and livestock and increased...

They coined the word “greedflation”. Trying to demonize companies that keep us alive and fed. The greedflation is occurring at the federal government level with too many employees and layers of bureaucracy stifling growth and causing inflation through policies or wages/benefits for dead weight.

A decent loyal VP would have declined to run if they pushed her President out. A smart one would have worked hard to be ready just in case. She is unprepared. Lazy. Schizophrenic campaign.
Runs away from Biden's policies. Throws out these slogans and a couple new ideas. Then Today she says Bidenomics is still working. She wouldn't change a thing. Democrats running for office are sounding the alarm. Her campaign isn't listening. The entire party made the biggest mistake- believing their own propaganda. The last gasp of her chance of winning is passing. Just as Covid was a challenge for Trump and would be no matter what because politics always comes into play, these hurricanes will end it for her. Even if there was gouging it would be a drop in the bucket, not a savior. She never gives a detail or a number on anything, she’s a joke. A good interviewer could finish her off in minutes.
Once she outlaws fracking, then oil prices will rise. Then she can crack down on that gouging.
Guessing financials is another in a long list of thing she is clueless about? Could one of her henchpersons look and see margins some of these folks work on? And then TRY to ‘splain it?
One of her campaign ads laments the high cost of food.
She has the audacity to blame the large corporations for "gouging" (gaging in some circles). She also promisies to stop the merger of some super market chains in order to being food prices down
I looked it up. She voted for BOTH the Biden/Harris stimulus bills. The bold faced lies she spews is stunning

Actually, she didn’t say “price gauging”, she said “price GAGE-ing”. (And she wants to run our economy. RUIN our economy is more like it. She doesn’t even know the lingo we learned in junior high school. Idiot.
“Corporate Greed” and the “rich not paying their fair share” are dogwhistles to the minority knuckle draggers that vote Democrat. It is their mantra that few, if any of them, know the truth. They aren’t smart enough to research or find out the truth.
