Only 45% of Americans age 50 and older say they're likely to get the updated COVID-19 vaccine this season, according to a poll today from the University of Michigan.
The poll shows many at high risk of severe illness appear unlikely to seek the vaccine, and interest in an updated vaccine varies widely by age-group, education level, and other factors.
The results come from the National Poll on Healthy Aging conducted in August. At the time of polling, new COVID vaccines were not yet widely available, but they had been approved for use and endorsed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Among adults 75 and older, 59% said they were likely to get the updated COVID-19 shot, with 49% of them saying they’re very likely and 10% saying they're somewhat likely. Among adults 65 to 74, 51% said they were likely to get the vaccine.
Level of education plays a role Among those aged 50 to 64, more said they were unlikely to get the new vaccine; 55% unlikely, compared with 37% likely.
In 2023, nearly half of all US COVID hospitalizations were among those ages 75 and older.
The poll showed demographic differences as well. Adults with a Bachelor's degree were more likely to get vaccinated—54%, compared with 41% of those with lower levels of education. Overall, women were slightly more likely than men to say they would be vaccinated.

Since I’m not (very) old yet I don’t see the point.
COVID will infect me when it mutates to a new strain, I’ve got a 99.5 or so chance of surviving so I will get natural immunity anyway. And if it doesn’t developed a new strain I already have immunity so again why bother?
Oddly, we’ve never had an issue with the vax or boosters. Likely because we didn’t play into their game of “who’s compliant”.

Most people I know — a wide range of ages — now regret having taken the shots. They’ve got problems they didn’t have before, some very serious problems, and beyond my circle they all know someone who experienced worse, including death.
That said, most will say they’re not really sure if it was the shot or covid at fault...since all got covid anyway.
But quite a few insist the aftermath of the shot was much worse than a few days of covid.
Me, I’m a child of contrarians and very much the skeptic so the 24/7 hustle from the media didn’t influence me. I wasn’t taking anything without a long track record for efficacy and safety.
Kung Flu vax free here!!! No initial jab and obviously no “boosters”
If you are stupid enough to get a kung flu vax “update” at this point you get what you deserve just like if you are stupid enough to vote democrat you get what you deserve...
Most of my friends and family are catching it again. I’ve never caught it but did stay pretty isolated. Took the shots last time after several friends died but will avoid them this time and isolate a bit more again. More fun at home anyway.

Back in my day a vaccine was what it was supposed to be. One shot of polio vaccine did the trick, no booster shots. Same with small pox. How can they call this stuff a vaccine when you have to take 3 - 4 boosters and a yearly shot? And for the yearly flu and covid shots, how do they know in advance how a new strain will develop? Guess work at best. I have not had a flu shot in over 40 years, and after the last one I got a bad case, was down for a week. Never had the flu since.
I haven’t gotten my first one yet, much less a booster.
Wait, people still do this?
