State senator thwarts GOP effort to lock down all of Nebraska’s electoral votes for Trump

A Republican effort to lock down all of Nebraska’s electoral votes for former President Donald Trump appeared doomed Monday when a state lawmaker denied backers his crucial support for the move.

GOP Sen. Mike McDonnell of Omaha said in a statement that he opposes awarding Nebraska’s five electoral votes on a winner-take-all basis, like 48 other states do. Nebraska and Maine give two electoral votes to the candidate who wins statewide and one vote to the winner in each congressional district.

McDonnell’s position means Republicans don’t have the two-thirds majority they’d need in Nebraska’s unique, one-chamber Legislature to pull off a change ahead of the Nov. 5 election.

Here’s a look at why Trump’s allies were pushing for the change, what it would have taken to succeed and why a single state lawmaker is in the national spotlight.

Why one of Nebraska’s electoral votes matters this year: Nebraska is one of nine states that Republican candidates have carried in every presidential election since 1964, but it hasn’t had a winner-take-all rule since 1991. And most times since 1991, Republican candidates still have captured all of the state’s votes.

But in 2020, Democrat Joe Biden captured the vote for the 2nd Congressional District in the Omaha area. President Barack Obama also did it in 2008.

A presidential candidate needs 270 of 538 electoral votes to win. One scenario is that Democrat Kamala Harris, the vice president, wins the battlegrounds of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, while Trump wins the other four — North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada. Harris would have 269 electoral votes to Trump’s 268, which would include four from Nebraska.

This wouldn’t have to be a big deal except that the same World-Herald that conspired in a honeypot bribery scheme to take US lawmakers hostage in the 1990’s is making sure to censor anybody who tries to confront their constant lies. Omaha is hopeless.

The Nebraska legislature (Unicameral, with just one house not two) is also the only non-partisan state legislature...IN THEORY. Of course every member has a party affiliation and even though they don’t put letters behind their names, everyone knows who is what.

Omaha is a blue city on the edge of a deep red state.

The Senator in question (who is, by Democrat standards, practically a “conservative” and not merely a moderate) can’t run for re-election, and there probably aren’t many hog farms in the largely Hispanic ghetto of South Omaha anyway.

The district (D+7) is highly likely to replace this “RINO” with a liberal Democrat, so the GOP Is going to have to look elsewhere if they plan to build that legislative supermajority in Nebraska.

It may all be a moot point, regardless:

Some have claimed, perhaps with justification, that the Democrats who control the state of Maine — in which Trump *should* get 1 EV because Maine splits EVs just like Nebraska — will retaliate and go to a winner-take-all system if Nebraska does.

Unfortunately, there are many like this ass in the Republican Party. We see it all the time in the House in Congress. We are plagued by Rinos. or should I say lying Democrats, i.e. Democrats who call themselves Republicans.

Maine may make the change even if Nebraska does not.

“Omaha is a blue city on the edge of a deep red state.”

___________________________________________________________

The Omaha metro area has 50% of the Nebraska population. Lincoln has another 10%+. That means they outnumber the rest of the state.

I donated to the group mentioned at https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2024/09/citizen-platform-take-ngos-big-steal/ . I’m hoping they can find fraudulent voter registration addresses in Omaha and make sure that no ballots are sent to those places.

Actually, I may want to get you started on the ballot shenanigans in Omaha, because if we know what is being done we might figure out a way to stop it.

State Sen. Mike McDonnell announces leaving the Democratic Party after he was censured by the state and Douglas County Democrats. (Aaron Sanderford/Nebraska Examiner)

Sounds like the censure & his leaving was a setup.

State Sen. Mike McDonnell deflates GOP hopes for Nebraska winner-take-all in 2024 Decision creates the potential for Democrats to reclaim the 2nd District ‘blue dot’
