Russian State TV recently broadcasted a segment of a talk show during which the hosts discussed the potential of Alaska joining Russia.
In the show, the host makes a joke saying: "Do you know what they call Alaska? Ice Crimea."
He then adds that Alaska will "one day return to its native shores."
The hosts are referencing the fact that Alaska once "belonged" to Russia, before being sold to the United States in 1866. This echoes rhetoric used in the war in Ukraine, that Ukraine "belonged" to Russia, and therefore should rejoin its so-called native land.

When your enemy is literally broadcasting his ultimate intentions, people should wake up and listen.
In what may be termed Russian expansionism and desire to usurp new territories for ultranationalism, Russian state TV presenter Olga Skabeyeva has referred to the U.S. state of Alaska as "our Alaska". During the Russia-1 program '60 Minutes', a propagandist anchor made this remark while talking to Adalbi Shkhagoshev, a deputy of Russia's Parliament, the State Duma, reports the Daily Express US. The lawmaker was talking about the joint patrol carried out by Russia and China last week. The military exercise took place within 200 miles of the Alaskan coast.
Russia Now Wants Alaska Back from America
Some Russian commentators, fueled by nationalist rhetoric, have continued to suggest that Alaska should be returned to Russia, despite the fact that the territory was legally purchased by the United States in 1867.
This notion has resurfaced recently, with propagandist Olga Skabeyeva and Russian lawmakers like Oleg Matveychev calling for Alaska's return. However, these claims are entirely baseless, as Alaska was sold to the U.S. for $7.2 million in a legitimate transaction.
The deal, initially criticized in the U.S. as "Seward's Folly," proved valuable after the discovery of gold and later, oil. American officials, including Alaska's Governor Mike Dunleavy, have dismissed these Russian claims with strong opposition.
Yet, in Moscow, there remain critics who seriously believe Alaska should be returned to Russia, along with other territory that was once controlled by the Czars. The latest was propagandist Olga Skabeyeva, who on Sunday's broadcast of the Russia-1 news program 60 Minutes described the 49th American state as "our Alaska" while discussing the recent joint Russian-Chinese deployment of bombers with the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).

Sounds like a plan to me...with all plans they work till they don’t.
The Russians have wisely killed all the rattlesnakes in Russia.
Sheeeee-it. Russia can’t even “seize” Ukraine.
I don’t think Alaska has anything to worry about. Well, unless Kammy gets in. Then we’re all hosed.
This is just more zeeper handwringing and pearl-clutching.
Wonder what the Inuit people think of being under Russian occupation?
They would need mass immigration across the Bering strait first, otherwise there wouldn’t be any “Alaska People’s Republic” to break away and justify an invasion.
Russia (or China) could just wait for the idiocracy to take over. Future President Chelsea Clinton would probably sell it to them for pennies on the dollar to pay for the annual $ multitrillion interest on the national debt.
[\S].
I remember an NBC miniseries called ‘World War III’ back in the70’s. It was about a fictional Russian incursion to take over the Alaskan Pipeline. The late Rock Hudson played the President. In the end, the Russians took it over, and it resulted in a full-scale nuclear war.
A real ‘feel good’ show, no?
“Three weeks to Fairbanks!”
after conquering Ukraine in three days, Putin is hungry for more.
Grab your rifle and head for the front lines.
What drama I agree with you.
Sabre Rattling.
This rhetoric would not be necessary if the US was not poking the Bear.
Biden’s fault.
No, but we will take Greenland
Depends on whether the Russians can run a decent liquor store.
