Grace Now

Bible in a Year :

[Love] is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered.

1 Corinthians 13:5

We hurried to a fast-food restaurant to have lunch together on my friend Jerrie’s short work break. Arriving at the door about the same time, six young men got inside just in front of us. Knowing we didn’t have much time to spare, we grumbled inwardly. They stood as a group at both registers to be sure each of them could order first. Then I heard Jerrie whisper to herself, “Show grace now.” Wow! Sure, letting us go first would have been nice, but what a great reminder to think of others’ needs and desires and not only my own.

The Bible teaches that love is patient, kind, and unselfish; it’s “not easily angered” (1 Corinthians 13:5). “It often . . . prefers [others’] welfare, and satisfaction, and advantage, to its own,” wrote commentator Matthew Henry of this love. God’s kind of love thinks of others first.

In a world where many of us are easily irritated, we frequently have occasion to ask God for help and the grace to choose to be patient with others and to be kind (v. 4). Proverbs 19:11 adds, “A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.”

That’s the kind of loving action that brings honor to God, and He might even use it to bring thoughts of His love to others.

With God’s strength, let’s take every opportunity to show grace now.

Reflect & Pray

In what ways might you need to not act out of frustration? How could turning to God help you?

I’m in need of Your help, God. I face many levels of irritation but want to instead be filled and overflowing with Your kind of love.

Howdy, Kathy.

Champ didn’t need to go to the mower doctor after all. Hubby’s cousin came by yesterday but before loading it up, he hopped on and checked it out. He said he didn’t think it was anything more than badly chipped blades, which knocked them out of balance. I got new blades today and Cuz put them on this evening. Runs smoothly again. Whew!
This is why I got a mower identical to his. If I have a problem, odds are he’s dealt with it himself, knows the solution, and can fix most problems himself. Money-saver.

Yay, you made it! I imagine you didn’t get much sleep last night and are dead on your feet. If you disappear, we’ll know you’re napping and will try to be quiet. :-)

No “light rain” for these parts until MAYBE Friday evening and Saturday.

Worse tomato season ever. Worse pepper season ever. Somehow the summer squash keep bearing in abundance even though they started weeks later than the seed packets indicated. Their big leaves catch incredible amounts of dew.

What a smart call to get the same kind of mower. Hurrah for Champ with his new shiny blades.

How’s the weather treating you? Rain causing the grass to grow?

Not a drop of rain here today, but we did have some overnight.

Tired for sure....drooping. LOL!

Our skies looked almost identical today. I thought we might get a little rain tonight but it looks like it’s all going to pass south of here. I wish it WOULD rain because one of Dusty’s guys was here this afternoon to crush the corn stalk stubs and it stirred all that mess up again. *sigh*

The grass has grown a little since it rained over the weekend but not like it would have a month ago. The sun’s tracking father south each day as we close in on the equinox and plants aren’t going to grow all that much now.

Don’t ignore the siren song of your recliner. LOL You need a good night’s sleep!
