ILLINOIS (WMBD) — EYM Chicken Operations and its parent company, Yum, shut down multiple Illinois KFC fast-food locations earlier this week, implementing mass layoffs of its employees statewide.
According to a former maintenance employee who worked at several central Illinois KFC restaurants, his director of operations called him on Aug. 6 to notify him of his termination. The employee said he was vacationing in Tennessee when he received the call.
He requested a formal notification via email from his director and received an email that outlined the circumstances surrounding the sudden departure shortly after.
He said the company eliminated his position effective immediately and he felt “treated as though he did something wrong.”
On Monday, four KFC fast-food locations in Illinois, including those where the maintenance employee worked, abruptly closed Monday morning, according to former restaurant employees.

On the other hand, El Pollo Loco is doing just fine.
Hmmm . . .
I lived in Rockford for 15 years. The 11th Street location (Route 251) is in a marginal part of the city. BlackElk’s (RIP) wife used to teach at the school that was across the street. The Kilburn location is a bit better, and MAchesney Park is middling. Most of the successful fast food outlets are going to be on Perryville, E. State, or Riverside Blvd. Kentucky Fried Chicken isn’t there. Popeye’s is, Chick-Fil-A is.
Popeye's!
A KFC about a mile north of me closed last year, and a Shari’s about a mile south of me closed this week.
Just a few days ago I saw a post mocking El Pollo Loco’s $47 family meal.
I am still getting regularly KFC coupons.
But, I have no idea, where the nearest KFC is?
They closed few around my place.
There is Chick-fil-e, most of the hamburger places carry some chicken and they are opening two Popeye’s.
Kroger has good fried chicken.
I always liked KFC for it’s unique flavor. If it’s price goes up (and it has) and the flavor is not the same, then what’s the point?
On the other hand, El Pollo Loco is doing just fine.
There it is.
Chickens for KFC
In related news, millions of Illinois chickens breath a sigh of relief.
KFC’s around my neck of the woods haven’t been any good in many many years.
El Polo Loco is the worst and their workers are the rudest people around, they have a very bad habit of getting the orders wrong too. I’ve noticed the same problems at many of their outlets. It’s so common that it makes you wonder whether they’re doing it all on purpose.
Fast Food Desert...
Not in the Popeyes in my nearby town...they used to be excellent but are awful now.
Calm down. It’s not like you can’t get a cheeseburger and Pepsi.

The small truck stop/gas station in my rural W TN hometown has a mountain of the best fried chicken every day. I can’t let myself go too often, but just might tomorrow ... now that I’m thinking about it.
They're just exploding.
They're emulating KFC's business model.
