A convoy of Ukrainian armoured vehicles carrying jubilant troops was captured trundling through Russia's Kursk region in a fresh humiliation for Vladimir Putin after Volodymyr Zelensky's forces launched a surprise assault earlier this week.
Tanks, armoured personnel carriers, a UR-77 mine-clearing vehicle and other army equipment were seen surging through a rural area in footage taken by a Ukrainian mortar position and shared to Telegram this morning.
Kyiv's forces stormed across the border on Tuesday morning, deploying around 1,000 troops and more than two dozen armoured vehicles and tanks in an unexpected assault on Russian soil, according to the Russian army.
The key gas transit town of Sudzha is under partial Ukrainian control and almost ringed by its forces as Kyiv's troops advanced up to six miles into Russian territory - the most serious border incursion of the conflict so far, the Institute for the Study of War said today.

Ultimately Ukraine does not have the men to continue this assault, but I doubt that is the point. An old trick is to do a counter assault to pull enemy resources from their assault.
Will be interesting to see if Ukraine pulls back and you see another counter assault somewhere else on the line.
poor little pooty - his evil doesn’t work out for him
How dare the country we invaded invade us back. Outraged! lol.
Putin and Xi are aiming for a new world order
Ukraine is a disaster country, unlivable. so many Ukrainians already dead in war. One incursion means didly squat.
Glad you shared that. I was wondering what the point was to their incursion. It just made no sense to me.
Fascists on the march — also sex traffickers and $$ launderers. Must be time for BeijingBiden to get his 10% cut.
“the most serious border incursion of the conflict so far, the Institute for the Study of War said today.”
May it lead to further ‘most serious border incursions’
May it be so!
I agree that it’s likely to be a Pyrrhic victory and would’ve been a lot smarter much earlier in the war. Politically it helps but wouldn’t something like an incursion along the Belarus border be more strategically useful?
“... the most serious border incursion of the conflict so far,...”
If the incursion does nothing else it creates a political headache for Putin. The less he seems to be in control the greater the chance people sitting on the fence will finally make their moves.
You may recall that Putin issued a statement in June saying that any negotiations to resolve the conflict had to recognize Russia’s right to keep any territory it gained in the war as an initial condition. Some saw this as a sign that he was finally weary of the war and had finally opened the door to some type of settlement, albeit on terms then unfavorable to Ukraine’s territorial integrity. Now, with Ukraine occupying Russian territory, which Putin has always claimed to be sacred, and poised to perhaps occupy more, the shoe is on the other foot. This is a very savvy move.
Get the power plant!
That is what they want.
Russia suffers a setback. Pooters have a big sad.
This move, if they can sustain it, was brilliant. As a guy from Austria once said about Russia, “Kick the door in and the whole rotten structure will crumble”.
Of course, that Austrian guy wound up burned in a pit in the ruins of Berlin, war always involves risks.
A lot of pro-Ukraine posts emphasize Putin being “humiliated”, or how current events affect Russian “feels”.
Just like in Gaza, what matters is who wins and who loses. As was the case with the man from Braunau am Inn, who made it all the way to a big bend in the Volga but couldn’t quite git ‘er done - however many sads Stalin had.
Ultimately Ukraine does not have the men to continue this assault,

Nor the capabilities to supply and support them. Vlad’s unlimited FAB’s, artillery and aviation are busy shredding them.
Using the Ukies performance during their Belgorod pin pricks, this plays out as yet another debacle.
EXACTLY. Ukraine is a disaster. Infrastructure is gone. Millions of Uke’s have fled. Many Ukrainian women are in my tourist town openly prostituting.
