S&P agency downgrades Ukraine's credit rating to selective default
Ukra news ^ | 4 Aug 24 | Daria Zubkovka

Posted on 08/04/2024 8:07:32 PM PDT by delta7

The international rating agency S&P Global lowered the long-term and short-term credit ratings of Ukraine in foreign currency to the level of "selective default" - from CC/C to SD/SD - due to the missed payment of Eurobonds on August 1 against the background of debt restructuring.

"We understand that the government has decided to suspend bond payments pending restructuring. To that end, the government has not made a coupon payment on its 2026 Eurobonds on August 1, 2024, when payment was due, and we do not expect payments during the bonds' contractual grace period of 10 business days," S&P said in a statement on its website.

As a result, as noted, the rating of the 2026 sovereign Eurobond issue was also downgraded to D (default) from CC, while the CC rating for the rest of Ukraine's senior unsecured currency bond issues was confirmed.

The pieces are all in place for the world markets to crash and war to breakout everywhere. Will it happen? I don’t know. But the fact that all these things were allowed to fester without any correction suggest it is only a matter of time. There is a real lack of leadership in this country, and in this world.

Don’t be surprised to see Russia (and China) rebuilding Nuevo Russia….at least the Russian Provinces Russia holds. The EU can spend the billions to rebuild the Western half of Rump Ukraine.

The Russian Donbass ( it has always been Russian) is chocked full of $$$billions of resources.

EXPLAINER: What’s the impact of a Russian debt default?

By KEN SWEET, KELVIN CHAN and STAN CHOE

Published 6:32 PM EDT, June 27, 2022

LONDON (AP) — Russia has defaulted on its foreign debt for the first time since the Bolshevik Revolution more than a century ago, further alienating the country from the global financial system following sanctions imposed over its war in Ukraine.

Moscow owed $100 million in interest on one bond priced in dollars and one priced in euros, which was originally due May 27. A 30-day grace period expired Sunday. On Monday, the rating agency company Moody’s declared the country in default.

With Russia’s huge natural resources and developing their Brics M Bridge Unit, the West has become irrelevant…..and just why should they repay western debt when they illegally confiscated their funds?

The US is becoming irrelevant in today’s new world.

Yeah Russia has lots of natural resources, just like other global superpowers like the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola. Nowadays, an isolated and dependent Russia gets paid whenever its master China feels like paying it.

China's trade with Russia is getting so difficult that payments can take half a year and most bank transfers are returned, report says

Still waiting for any comments from the usual war cheerleaders…..hint: those F16’s aren’t going to save Ukraine, neither did the tons of ammo, artillery shells, Leopards, M1’s, Strykers, M113’s , Patriots, M777’s, MRAP’s, ATACM’s, or Bradley’s, $$$ billions in taxpayers money, etc, etc,…all flushed down the Ukie toilet.

Good Job!

"So... Russia can’t pay its debt due to Western sanctions. So any westerners holding the debt just got stiffed, and Russia in effect got to keep its money while it gets paid in Rubles for the gas and oil it sells."

It is to laugh.

You're trying to sell this as some sort of "win" for the West?

Weird.
