Embattled Secret Service head Kimberly Cheatle has revealed the fateful reason why her agency failed to position an agent on top of the building that a gunman used to carry out an assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
Cheatle, who is already facing calls to resign over what some lawmakers are calling a massive security failure, said Secret Service officials planning security for Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania considered the warehouse about 150 yards away from where Trump spoke to be a risky position for stationing an agent.
'That building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point. And so, you know, there's a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn't want to put somebody up on a sloped roof,' she told ABC News in an interview Tuesday.
'And so, you know, the decision was made to secure the building, from inside.'
What transpired instead was a security nightmare: Thomas Matthew Crooks was able to scale the building and secure his own position, while law enforcement struggled to locate him even amid pressing warnings from members of the Trump crowd. But there wasn't sufficient time to act on the tips, she explalined.
'The shooter was actually identified as a potential person of suspicion,' Cheatle said. 'Unfortunately, with the rapid succession of how things unfolded, by the time that individual was eventually located, they were on the rooftop and were able to fire off at the former president.'

There were dozens of “mysterious lapses” in Secret Service security in Dallas that day.

They got rid of JFK because he took on the intel community. Just like Trump.
While Schumer publicly says flat-out that the intel community targets anybody who “takes them on”. And while all the people who are supposed to be providing accountability for the intel community cower in the corner.
She should go back to guarding bags of Cheetos. She has no business leading the secret service. I wouldn’t trust her handling security at a high school football game.
I also think they will try again. Trump needs a real security team.
It would be nice if any would-be assassins got to see immediate justice come to the people who aided in this assassination plot.
We all need to be praying for Donald Trump. And for this country, like Harrison Butker said in response to this assassination attempt.

As 47 Trump should keep the current lower level SS DEI hires but limit them to teams covering Clinton, Obama and Biden family members. They’ll fit in and get along there. They’ll succeed because most perps share their philosophy and won’t hit them. Frees up remaining good agents from onerous duty and a few may prove themselves competent enough for other duty. Do purge the leadership and fix the policies.
Nor will we officially hear from a LEO who was told this particular rooftop was not a top priority, there were other more important concerns - notwithstanding the rooftop offered perhaps the most favorable nearby shooting position.
She should be fired for this response alone.
Well, maybe not two miles. Regardless, there is no excuse for not securing all of the rooftops with clear line-of-sight to the podium. You don't have to be a trained security expert to know this.
It defies belief that this was just incompetence or some kind of miscommunication/oversight.
