Varying Treatment of Biden and Trump Puts Their Parties in Stark Relief
The New York Times ^ | Jul 05, 2024 09:03 AM | Peter Baker

One of America’s political parties has a presidential candidate who is really old and showing it. The other has a presidential candidate who is a convicted felon, adjudicated sexual abuser, business fraudster and self-described aspiring dictator for a day. And also really old.

One of the parties is up in arms about its nominee and trying to figure out how to replace him at the last minute. The other is not.

The spectacle of the week since the nationally televised debate between President Biden and former President Donald J. Trump has thrown into sharp relief two political parties that agreed to be led by flawed putative nominees whose vulnerabilities have become even more painfully apparent just months before the election.

But the distinction of recent weeks has been striking. After Mr. Trump was found guilty of 34 felonies by a Manhattan jury in May — a verdict that came after civil judgments against him for personal and professional misdeeds — there was no significant groundswell within the Republican Party to force him out of the race in favor of a less-tainted candidate. Even though many Republican officeholders and strategists privately loathe him, they fell in line and made clear they would stick with him no matter how many scandals piled up.

Until last week, Democrats had also resigned themselves to a candidate many considered far from ideal. Mr. Biden and his allies had effectively squelched any internal dissent, forcing Democrats to stay quiet despite fears that his age would ultimately undercut his campaign. After last week’s debate showcased concerns about his mental sharpness, however, the conspiracy of silence was broken. Suddenly, a wide swath of Democrats concluded that he was no longer viable and mounted an effort to pressure him to...

The Slimes has to run every word past their CIA Mockingbird bosses.

North Korean propaganda is more enlightening.

I recall over 70 years ago; I helped my grandmother with the Times Sunday edition. She walked me to Sunday school and home after getting the paper and visiting my grandfather’s grave. I
was blessed to have the greatest ladies to help me grow up.

I’ll repeat myself…

There is a basic reality in terms of the Presidential candidacy, and by proxy Veep.

Over the years, The Presidency went from a job where the nation wanted a guy who had ideas and leadership qualities, to sort of like the slot for lead singer in Van Halen.

You can have a killer frontman like David Lee Roth, who excites and slays live and propels the band creatively, but who is a trainwreck in terms of everything else.

You can get Sammy Hagar, who is ultra competent but not terribly motivating and not your primary pick for frontman.

Then there is Gary Cherone, who is great in Extreme but lost in VH.

Trump is Diamond Dave. Bidet is Cherone - and even that’s a stretch since Cherone was never unable to sing coherently… work with me. DeSantis is Sammy.

Personally, I would rather we get a Sammy president. DeSantis was Sammy, but he sort of flopped once he moved out of 2,000-seat venues to Madison Square Garden.

Reagan was Sammy, with a touch of DLR like when he joked about bombing the Soviets and “there you go again…”

That was then.

In 2024, America isn’t voting for competency. We are voting for the Frontman of America. And maybe that’s ok - maybe we NEED a Frontman more than a vocalist right now.

In this contest, the nation and populism want Diamond Dave. And Dave is unifying people like nobody-look at the rappers with Trump in The Bronx. It’s stunning.

And after the debate, people REALLY want Dave back in the WH. Further, the people who thought Cherone was good in VH are now gaslighting the world and saying they had no idea he wasn’t a frontman like Dave.

But we need to be honest with ourselves. Trump is a train wreck in terms of personnel choices, and he can get carried away with social media. True, we got solid SCOTUS picks and abortion overturned, a cranking economy, and no wars. But after Eat ‘Em & Smile, Dave jumped the shark. Let’s hope he retains Steve Vai, Gregg Bissonette, and and Billy Sheehan in 2024.

Trump will win the Diamond Dave vote, which will be drawn to a guy who just lost a case. Bidet will get the increasingly shrinking Gary Cherone vote (and again, Cherone is awesome with Extreme; Bidet was never awesome, but work with me).

As an aside, for Veep, it’s the same deal…we want a red meat Frontman or Frontwoman. Not a policy wonk, not a businessman, etc.

The closest Veep candidate meeting that need, is Elise Stefanik. She’s got TWO Ivy League scalps, and she hasn’t wiped the blood off her mouth. Experience? RINO? That’s what they said about Trump in 2015.

That is why as qualified as the other Veep candidates may be, like it or not Elise Lee Roth is what will garner votes. And perhaps Elise is Wolfgang, and can let us get two tours with Eddie and Roth before the band terminates.

Make her VP, Trump wins, and Elise Lee Roth clobbers whatever jack wagon the Dems put up in 2028, like Kamala or some Dixie Chick.

Ultimately, regardless of who gets into the WH, never forget….the American People are Eddie, Michael, and Alex-a monster band that is invariant to the guy in the singer slot. WE run the nation.

The other has a presidential candidate who is a convicted felon target of Democrat lawfare, adjudicated sexual abuser target of Democrat lawfare, business fraudster target of Democrat lawfare and self-described aspiring dictator for a day it was a joke you idiot. And also really old in great condition for his age and obviously fit for the presidency.

The Premise is is utter hogwash. The Democratic way to replace a nominee is through a primary. The Democrats refused to allow a primary to occur. The Republicans had a primary where just about every politician was against Trump. Trump won and the party said we accept the will of the voters. After a sham primary where no one was allowed on the ballots the voters gave Biden the nomination and the Rats are not respecting the will of their voters. Complete BS premise.

The other has a presidential candidate [Trump] who is a convicted felon,

Technically, on a lie charge.

adjudicated sexual abuser,

Lie.

business fraudster

Lie.

and self-described aspiring dictator

Lie.

Four lies in one sentence. That has to be a record, even for the New York Times.

He’s technically not a felon until sentencing.

Anybody that equates DeSantis with Reagan and chooses DeSantis over Trump is not credible in my eyes.

Yes. Back in the 70s, I would go to the news stand and pickup a copy of the NYT at midnight, then pickup some bagels and sit back with a hot cup of coffee and enjoy reading it. Happy memories.
