Florida Gov. DeSantis is Trump's favorite pick for VP among Republican voters, poll shows
The Latin Times ^ | Jun 24 2024 | Demian Bio

Republicans' top pick to be Donald Trump's vice presidential candidate, according to a new poll by The Economist/YouGov.

DeSantis, who was initially considered Trump's top contender for the candidacy but quickly dropped out from the primaries after a sweeping defeat in Iowa, has said he is not interested in the position.

However, over four in ten respondents who identify as Republicans chose him as their preferred pick, while 40% of independents who lean toward the GOP giving the same answer.

The poll showed that Florida Senator Marco Rubio followed suit with 27% of respondents choosing him as the potential VP. The senator, in turn, is vying for the position, but he is reportedly not willing to audition for it.

According to The New York Times, he has taken a low-key approach. Aides and donors view him as one of several options who would pose little risk of creating unwanted distractions for a candidate already facing multiple legal threats.

At the same time, he is also known to have a strong relationship with Susie Wiles, a fellow Floridian and Trump campaign senior adviser who is coordinating the search for a running mate.

But a potential Trump-Rubio ticket may run into some issues, starting from within. Rubio's quietness on the campaign trail has perplexed Trump, who has privately wondered how much the senator actually wants the job, according to two people familiar with the subject.

Similarly, Trump has told advisers that Rubio would have to move out of the state, according to The Times, as the Constitution potentially bars two residents from the same state from sharing a presidential ticket.

I thought it was party rules that require both candidates can’t be from the same state.

DeSantis needs to stay Governor. Trump will never be president.

Five will get you twenty, my gov, at the very least knew this article was being written. He probably approved it. He has plans in 28.

I keep saying he is on a rehab the image tour after the Trump backstab. He is counting on short memories.

Why the incessant postings of governmental VP choices from Florida? They are not eligible. Unless they change residence, but then they would be giving uo their dayjobs or elected duties.

I think Tulsi is the likely choice. Lots of reasons for that guess. We’ll see.

I live in FL. He has done some wonderful things for the state, especially after Ian, but showed his true self (and who controls him) during the primary. He lost my trust and support. I take no pleasure in that but it is what it is- so speaking for myself no hate just eyes opened and a refusal to play the game of praising his conservatism. It only exists for a purpose. Many others feel the same.

If you watch closely you can see a pattern of rehabbing his image through PR and legislation. He is planning, or more accurately, his wife is planning, a run again in 28. And if you vote for him you will make the Bush family very happy.

does he not have a citizenship problem?

No. Here's why.

Summary on Vivek’s status as a natural born citizen (NBC):

NBC is a legal issue. Vivek Ramaswamy was born on August 8, 1985 in Cincinnati, Ohio to parents who were in the U.S. legally but not U.S. citizens. The U.S. Supreme Court (SC) has ruled that someone who is born on U.S. soil is an NBC if at the time of his birth, his parents were in the U.S. legally but not U.S. citizens. Therefore, according to the mandatory legal authority of sound constitutionally-based SC ruling and precedent, Vivek is an NBC.

Detailed argument

Since around 1900, (SC) rulings have become less and less valid because SC has gradually moved away from basing their decisions on the Constitution as written and originally understood and intended. But their ruling on NBC appear to be based on sound application of the Constitution.

In Perkins v. Elg, 99 F. 2d 408, Court of Appeals, Dist. of Columbia Circuit 1938, the Court of Appeals noted as part of the basis for their decision that...

United States v. Wong Kim Ark, 169 U.S. 649, 18 S. Ct. 456, 42 L. Ed. 890, 1898 [found that] [W]hen the Constitution was adopted the people of the United States were the citizens of the several States for whom and for whose posterity the government was established. Each of them was a citizen of the United States at the adoption of the Constitution, and all free persons thereafter born within one of the several States became by birth citizens of the State and of the United States.

It appears the Supreme Court in Elg (1939) agrees with Ark (1898).

(Both Marie Elizabeth Elg and Wong Kim Ark were born on U.S. soil to parents who were here legally but not U.S. citizens.)

Again, the Constitution is properly applied as written and ORIGINALLY UNDERSTOOD and intended. What matters is what the ratifiers of the Constitution considered an NBC was. The Supreme Court decisions based on the good-faith and sound finding of original understanding of NBC in the Constitution is, therefore, legal precedent concerning NBC. Thus, Vivek should be considered an NBC.

Some argue that the term "NBC" is not specifically used in Ark or Elg, but these cases revolve around citizenship based on birth on U.S. soil, which is exactly what NBC is. An NBC is a citizen automatically because he was born on U.S. soil. He is “naturally” and automatically a citizen needing no further processing to become a U.S. citizen. He becomes a citizen under “natural” (birth) circumstances, exactly as Elg, Ark, and now Vivek.

Choice picks are all young. At this time in our nation, older wiser would be comforting.
I don’t know a thing about some of the vp names considered. They don’t bring anything to Trump’s ticket in winning. I like Vance and Dr Carson.. For solid good men who have stood with Trump..

Throwing out a wild thought.. What if he chose his son?

To: Veto!
Vivek would be better as Secretary of State.

The Right needs to take the long view as the Left has done for years.

Trump’s VP will be the presumptive Presidential frontrunner in 2028 after Trump’s wildly successful 4-year term. Politician DeSantis as President in 2028? No.

Vivek is the ONLY one on the national stage who has consistently stood for the actual plan to extend and expand MAGA by bringing down the unconstitutional portion of the feds, reinstate the Constitution as the Supreme Law of the Land, and restore America’s Free Constitutional Republic. Non-politician Vivek does not mince words about what needs to be done to deal with the greatest enemy of America - her own mostly unconstitutional federal government.

Patriots, get a clue!

some question his “birthright citizenship”

Not a problem.

Ramaswamy is a Hindu (like Tulsi).

We do NOT want a follower of a middle-eastern religion in the Oval Office, which easily could happen.

He’s a Hindu, but says he believes in one God. Since Hindus have hundreds of gods, it sounds like he’s playing both ends against the middle, trying to appease everyone. That’s a problem.
