The U.S. Navy prepared for decades to potentially fight the Soviet Union, then later Russia and China, on the world's waterways. But instead of a global power, the Navy finds itself locked in combat with a shadowy, Iran-backed rebel group based in Yemen.

The U.S.-led campaign against the Houthi rebels, overshadowed by the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip, has turned into the most intense running sea battle the Navy has faced since World War II, its leaders and experts told The Associated Press.

The combat pits the Navy's mission to keep international waterways open against a group whose former arsenal of assault rifles and pickup trucks has grown into a seemingly inexhaustible supply of drones, missiles and other weaponry

Our traditional enemy that dominates our vital strategic interests and demands the lives of American servicemen - the Houthis.

Who the heck are the Houthis?

Doesn’t bode well for Taiwan or any of the pacific countries.

Our leaders are not concerned about that. They are too busy being all in on “saving” Ukraine. I only wish my statement was sarcasm.

Is Yemen essentially a failed country? With no unified control over its territory and what actors are operating from it? I also realize the Houthi “rebels” may have allies among and sympathy from the nominal “central” yemeni government, or at least are left alone by them to launch attacks from there. Pretty good sized country too, Wouldn’t be a cakewalk to occupy and sweep out the trash there, in terms of manpower needed.

They are a bunch of goat herders armed and trained by the Iranians. If we had the will we could wipe them out in a week. But under this administration….

Exactly. Despite all the whining and silly talk coming out of the Pentagon and particularly the MSM this is patently untrue. The US Navy is still the most powerful force on the planet today. We could win any conflict against the next two biggest Navy’s, simultaneously, in any sea on earth. And do it in short order. If the USN lacks anything at all it is focused leadership determined to prevail.

Flame away.

Too bad James Michener isn’t here. This is real Bridges of Toko-Ri kinda material.

“The trans sailor sat over the monitor. They/them was steeled by his commander, Amber who was always nurturing and ready to listen. “Missile inbound!”. with reflexed honed by years of X-box gaming and ritalin, it pushed the button. It burst into tears of pride that this had happened in the month of June. The drag queen show tonight would be something special indeed!’

Excerpt from “Last stand of the video game sailors”.

It is not our responsibility to keep access to Suez open.

Our national interest has little to do with that waterway.

However, Europe and the Arabs have essential national interests at stake. They also have the means to eliminate the threat.

US out of the Red Sea.

On a small scale, the military has systems that can pick up a mortar or rocket in the air, track trajectory and shoot it out the sky.

Systems can identify the POO site and send counter-battery on that exact spot.

It appears that Biden’s DOD doesn’t do that

We’re going to have to put boots in the sand at some point. Already are without a doubt.

I’m sure we’re avoiding (minimum required) that like the plague.

Why? You can’t fix this only from the sea and air, and shooting a >$50,000 dollar missile at $2,500 drone isn’t good math. Now do people see the need for lasers?

But... In the greater scheme of things, it’s all connected. Yemen’s Houthis are back by Iran. Iran is backed by Russia and a lesser degree China. And all the dominoes started falling with Ukraine. I don’t think the public is really aware of what sort of instability that was caused by us with our attempt of expanding NATO into former Soviet Republics and Russian border states, once again. The reverb will be global.

the USN or USAF could eliminate the HooToos and Yemen included, in about 45 minutes.

That they do not is because the Puppetmeisters behind the Biden regime won’t let them. Part of their protection racket for the Iranian dictators. Therefore, this ridiculous “inability” to defeat a rag-tag bunch of heretofore unknown terrorists in a backwards little place ... is very dangerous for the future of America and the civilized western world. Not becuase the HooToos are important. Not even because the Iranian regime is arming them. But because America is hornswaggled, cripped from within USA, at the very top.
