A group of House Democrats are pushing to create an investigative office within the Supreme Court to probe the justices and any purported conflicts of interest.

A group of House Democrats are pushing to create an investigative office within the Supreme Court to probe the justices and any purported conflicts of interest.

The legislation, titled the Supreme Court Ethics and Investigations Act, also offers ethics training for the justices and their spouses.

“We know the issue of court reform is fundamental to saving our democracy,” Rep. Hank Johnson, Georgia Democrat, said of the bill he co-sponsored and introduced Tuesday.

He was joined on the steps of the Supreme Court on Tuesday by other Democratic lawmakers and progressive advocacy groups supporting the act.

Rep. Jerry Nadler, New York Democrat, also joined in support of the legislation, calling out two justices by name — Justices Samuel A. Alito Jr. and Clarence Thomas, who have refused to recuse themselves from cases where liberals say they have conflicts of interest related to the Jan. 6 riots.

He said Justice Alito flew flags that symbolized the “Stop the Steal” movement and that Justice Thomas’ wife participated in the movement. Virginia Thomas was at the initial Jan. 6 rally but not at the riot that occurred when part of the group then marched on the U.S. Capitol.

Mr. Nadler said that despite the high court adopting its own ethics code last year, there is no enforcement mechanism for investigating ethics concerns lobbed at the justices, who judge their own recusal requests.

The legislation would create an investigative body within the Supreme Court that would report back to Congress on its findings.

The bill comes after Democrats have recently called for Justice Alito to recuse himself from cases related to the Capitol riot over an upside-down American...

This out of control PowerPlay by the Democrats could be very good for President Trump. I’m not saying the Supreme Court would agree to hear the Trump case in Retaliation to this overreach by Democrats, but…..

You think the problem with our judiciary is Thomas and Alito? I don’t.

“Democrat ethics” is an oxymoron.

They Can NOT create a “counsel” superceding and investigating the Supreme Court. NO- they can NOT do that. Been trying for more than two decades— and always stumbling on the limitations— what they cannot investigate (you know things like the actual decisions of the Supreme Court). This will never pass, because democrats don’t want it either!!

The legislature has one weapon they can use, impeachment, and it is in the Constitution.

Creating another congressional gambit to “investigate” is NOT in Congress’s power, and frankly the Supreme Court can rule such a Congressional overreach as Un Constitutional.
The checks and balances on Justices are well described in the Constitution.

Knowing a major federal LEO who put former federal judge Alcee Hastings away (he was impeached by the Senate and convicted by the Senate and removed from the bench!!!) shapes what have posted here. Supreme Court justices can be impeached— and they should if Congress has the evidence to bring it.

What Durbin and other a@@holes in democrat land are doing is trying to intimidate Justices— something they should watch their a@@ doing— because it will come back on them. Those here who think it wouldn’t do not know how or what can happen.

Has no traction— not in a year of a Senate turnover.

Shows they do not understand the United States of America Constitution at all. Separation of Powers.

The Congress has absolutely no authority over the Supreme Court of the United States.

None!

DOA. It has zero chance of moving. Might as well introduce a bill that says the moon is made of cheese.

It won’t go anywhere.

Look, it's important to remember this stuff. They won't get this now but they can surely get this later when they have majorities again and the WH. They know they won't have the high curt for years to come so they want to cripple the court as much as possible now.

Think of this as another radical item on the D's wishlist and why participating on voting in EVERY cycle is important b/c you never know when something like this will become a reality.

“We know the issue of court reform is fundamental to saving our democracy,” Rep. Hank Johnson, Georgia Democrat

If he means NY courts, I'm all for it. He forgets the US Supreme Court is a separate but equal branch of Government. The legislative branch needs to clean up their act before they start throwing stones at the Supreme Court.

You’d think a ready-made TV commercial would be ‘pounced’ upon: “This isn’t how our Constitution works. The (D) are wishing to violate it...again...”

“Oddly”, not a PEEP from *any* level of the (R)N(C).

This reminds me of the “citizen review boards” of police departments, usually staffed by the most vicious anti-cop POC criminals.

It won’t be any different here.
