A group of House Democrats are pushing to create an investigative office within the Supreme Court to probe the justices and any purported conflicts of interest.

A group of House Democrats are pushing to create an investigative office within the Supreme Court to probe the justices and any purported conflicts of interest.

The legislation, titled the Supreme Court Ethics and Investigations Act, also offers ethics training for the justices and their spouses.

“We know the issue of court reform is fundamental to saving our democracy,” Rep. Hank Johnson, Georgia Democrat, said of the bill he co-sponsored and introduced Tuesday.

He was joined on the steps of the Supreme Court on Tuesday by other Democratic lawmakers and progressive advocacy groups supporting the act.

Rep. Jerry Nadler, New York Democrat, also joined in support of the legislation, calling out two justices by name — Justices Samuel A. Alito Jr. and Clarence Thomas, who have refused to recuse themselves from cases where liberals say they have conflicts of interest related to the Jan. 6 riots.

He said Justice Alito flew flags that symbolized the “Stop the Steal” movement and that Justice Thomas’ wife participated in the movement. Virginia Thomas was at the initial Jan. 6 rally but not at the riot that occurred when part of the group then marched on the U.S. Capitol.

Mr. Nadler said that despite the high court adopting its own ethics code last year, there is no enforcement mechanism for investigating ethics concerns lobbed at the justices, who judge their own recusal requests.

The legislation would create an investigative body within the Supreme Court that would report back to Congress on its findings.

The bill comes after Democrats have recently called for Justice Alito to recuse himself from cases related to the Capitol riot over an upside-down American...

How about the House SUBPOENA NYC COURT OFFICIALS and HAVE THEM TELL US HOW THEY SELECTED JUDGE MERCHAN “RANDOMLY” to preside over MULTIPLE Trump-related cases?

Here we go! They were talking about court packing early in the illegitimate regime. They dropped it because the trial balloons weren’t good. So, they’re going to try to run out the conservatives and pack the court.

They’re so freaking transparent but nobody calls them on it. Infuriating.

Separation of powers

Exactly. The legislative branch (nor the Executive branch) have any authority over the Judicial Branch, and this is why our founding fathers did it this way.

Really- the Democrats CANNOT install an element in one other BRANCH of the federal government. Just as the Supreme Court may not install anything into Congress.

This is ludicrous.

Between Congress and the Executive, the Supreme Court has undergone changes in its size, location, and budget repeatedly throughout the years. The rest of the federal judiciary is required to comply with the judicial code of ethics. It’s an outrage that the Supreme Court pretends ethical obligations don’t apply to that institution as well.

Dems already anticipating SCOTUS deciding election, trying desperately to put their finger on the scale in their favor.
The three branches of the federal government are separate and equal.
Dems don’t have the authority to force SCOTUS to do anything.

Each branch rules themselves.

How hard is that to understand.

The legislature has one weapon they can use, impeachment.

As for ethics since when has the Congress been ethical?

Then we’ll need another Investigative Office to oversee and investigate the investigative office. The democrats really do hate the Constitution.
