Playing In The Sand!

A scene of the 2023 Fort McCoy Armed Forces Day Open House is shown May 20, 2023, at Fort McCoy, WI. The event was considered a great success by installation officials as nearly 3,000 people visited the installation to see numerous vehicle and equipment displays, interactive and information displays in tents, and much more. The day’s activities were centered on the Commemorative Area, which features the History Center; five World War II-era buildings filled with historical equipment and displays, the outdoor Equipment Park, and Veterans Memorial Plaza. Visitors were treated to sunny day and temperatures in the 70s as well. (U.S. Army Photo by Scott T. Sturkol, Public Affairs Office, Fort McCoy, WI.)

Just read that they did a piece about Goose 789 on the evening news on Channel 2. They’ll probably repeat it at 10 or 11, whichever time your nightly news comes on.

Howdy, luvie.

Did you enjoy having a cooler day? I imagine the kitties did.

Hey there, radu!

All of us did! The kitties especially did. They weren’t seeking shade quite as quickly as usual.

How were things there? How tall is the corn now?

A very pleasant good Thursday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country.

Yesterday at Wichita Ridge:

How's everyone doing this morning?

I hope this break lasts several days. Y'all need all the breaks in the heat you can get.

It was pretty nice today. Only got up to 80 and it wasn't as muggy. A bit breezy for mowing but that's what the air hose is for afterwards. LOL

The corn's shooting up fast. This pic was taken Monday and last Friday it was barely to my hips. Today, it's up to my chest.

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

Gorgeous day you had. Love those cottonball clouds in the deep blue sky. Gizmo seemed quite pleased too.
Looks like it was a bit warm though.

It’s supposed to be 95 or under at least through Sunday, but that can change in a heartbeat. I’ll enjoy any coolish air I can get. LOL! Right now it’s about 76. Nice.

Wow. It’s growing so fast. All the rain you’ve gotten has really helped. Just hope it keeps up so the kernels are nice and plump.

It was. There was actually someone fishing out there when we arrived. The fishing is really good out there.

Oof! I guess cool is relative. LOL I wouldn’t want to walk out the door if it was 95 degrees. Even with today’s high of 80, I still waited until 5:30 to hop on Champ. I’ll do the same tomorrow when I mow along the driveway and the high’s only supposed to be in the 70s. There’s NO shade at all out there, where I had some shade in the back yard today.

It rained almost two inches, total, last Saturday and Monday and that made the corn jump. Warm sunny days since then and that makes the corn happy. More rain coming through this weekend so it’ll jump again next week.
I, too, hope the rain keeps coming once the ears start growing. Corn needs a lot of rain to plump up those kernels.

As pretty as it was, I’m surprised there weren’t a lot of people fishing. Maybe there were earlier and most left before the heat of the day.

Remember that our humidity is only a fraction of what you have to deal with, so out 95 will “feel like” about 90. And that’s sooooo much better than 100+.

I must say, that corn looks VERY happy. No stunted stalks this year. Did anyone plant soybeans? I wonder how they’re faring.

90 is still too hot for comfort. 85 is my max and anything over that makes me prefer to stay in. LOL
But yep, 90 is still better than 100 any day.

There are a few stunted stalks here and there but this year’s corn is gorgeous so far. It should be with the 7 inches of rain we got here this month.
Heck, some places in NW TN got that much in one day last weekend!

Yes, there are soybeans planted around here and they’re doing great too. I feel bad for the guy with the field across the road. He has other fields as well and has had a heck of a time getting them all planted due to all the rain. I THINK he just got his beans planted this week. He’s been over there doing something anyway.

I check the cam several times a day and go back in the stream to see if anything fun has gone on. Never know what you’ll see.
The first thing I saw when I pulled it up today was that pretty new Goose and my eyes popped. HAD to go back to find out when it showed up. That’s when I saw the two together.

They’re making an event out of it flying this Sunday afternoon and I’ll watch that, for sure. I don’t know if Goose 703 (the grey one) will be a part of that, too, but it should be. The two flying together is a beautiful sight.

Well, I hope he has a successful crop even with planting late. Farmers are the most dedicated gamblers in the world!

Guess I’d better say good night. I just looked at the clock. LOL! Rats, and I wanted to watch one more show, too. See ya tomorrow! Hope you have another nice day!

There’s still time for planting. Dusty didn’t plant his beans until the last week in June last year because he had to wait that long to harvest his wheat. Planting late means harvesting late, that’s all.
The guy really doesn’t have equipment large enough for all he farms. He needs what Dusty has but his is much smaller. It takes him longer to get the work done. But he gets out there, works hard, and has beautiful fields of crops.

Up mighty late again. LOL Sleep late tomorrow.
