MADRID (AP) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday secured from Spain a pledge of additional air defense missiles to help fight the about 3,000 bombs that he says Russia launches every month at Ukraine in the third year of the war.
However, Ukraine still urgently needs another seven U.S.-made Patriot air defense systems to stop Russia hitting the power grid and civilian areas, as well as military targets, with devastating glide bombs that wreak wide destruction, Zelenskyy said.
“If we had these modern Patriot systems, (Russian) airplanes wouldn´t be able to fly close enough to drop the (glide) bombs on the civilian population and the military,” Zelenskyy told a news conference in the Spanish capital.

A Ceasefire would be giving Putin the breather to come back in a few years and grab more land.
There was a ceasefire in 2014 after Putin grabbed Crimea and the Donetsk People’s Republic and Luhansk People’s Republic. Ukrainians thought he got his pound of flesh and would not come back for more.
however, brigands always come back for more - and Putin attacked again in Feb 2022.
As to “this kind of money” - remember that Spain will most likely send older (20+ years older) tanks, missiles etc. to Ukraine. It’s not like they are sending their new stuff.
It’s not an endless war. Putin wants an endless war, a frozen conflict: he did that in Abhkhazia, in Transdniester etc.
Neither Ukraine nor Russia will be allowed to end this war.
Our only hope for an end to this absolute insanity is a President Trump 2024/47.

Poor Spain. Finally they go all in on selling their old so-yesterday arms and munitions, so they can spend on the next generation required by NATO membership.
Ukraine on the other hand will be finished by the end of Summer. Take it to the bank. When the Reserves sent to Karkiev are expended, and Russia opens up a 7 front offensive at the end of July, there will be a rapid rush to reshape the maps.
All the talk about Ukraine doing so well misses the point that they are bleeding out. Should Russia decide to bleed out the contractors recieving their home nation satellite targeting data and missiles, Ukraine will have no punch into Russia - wait for it - soon. Overnight a second of 12 Russia Defensive Nuclear Warning Radars was targeted by British forces under the guise of contractors in Ukraine.
Two months left for Ukraine. Then in the matter of week you will see a mad rush by Russian forces to secure as much of the land that most see as the viabiality of Ukrainian resolve be grabbed literally overnight - there will be no more talk of NATO intervention when it happens Odessa will fall.
The only question is does Russia allow Kiev any future Black Sea access and will it simply be a slim corridor between Odessa and Moldovia?
Ukraine has now lost 43,000 KIA in May. Russia has lost 22,000 KIA. This imbalance will only increase during the rest of Summer - Russia has forced a Ukrainian redeployment by using a feint in the North. When the actual Russia offensive operations take place, it will happen in a manner that literally stuns readers in the Western press. They have been lied to for so long as Politicians continue to raid the piggybank and rape the taxpayers.
Spain might as well flush that money down a toilet.
I will bet a $100 dollars in FR funding that Putin will change your mind after the last day of Summer. If you believe Ukraine holding land is the object of victory, that will change in what will be considered a breathtaking collaspe. The US is the one that has a single sector functioning economy - defense sector - without defense and QE the US is in recession. Arms is the only thing America can export. In our attempts to move beyond Switzerland and on to Saudi Arabia hosting “our” Zelinski free peace talks this fall, we announced our selling them the F35s. The Saudi’s are for sale this year.... Depending on the collaspe in Ukraine, Saudi might still join Brics over the West. Biden is failing in Israel and Ukraine... and Africa... the pacific....
