Poland’s foreign minister says the NATO nation should not exclude the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine and should keep Russian President Vladimir Putin in suspense over whether such a decision would ever be made.
Radek Sikorski made the comments in an interview published Tuesday in the Gazeta Wyborcza daily.
“We should not exclude any option. Let Putin be guessing as to what we will do,” Sikorski said when asked whether he would send Polish troops to Ukraine.
But a spokesperson for Poland’s Defense Ministry, Janusz Sejmej, told Polish media on Tuesday he had “no knowledge of that”

Poland should leave NATO then.
I think NATO was intended to be a defensive alliance, so Poland needs to be assured that if Russia responds with a Polish attack on them, those US defensive assurances are no more ironclad than US promises to Israel.
I think the Poles know their history well. Occupied by both Germany and the Soviets Union in WWII. Under communism and the Soviet union from the end of WWII to 1989. The poles of all people have no desire to have Putin at their doorstep.

I’m not so sure about that; for almost 40 years, from the early 1980’s, Poland, through the Solidarity movement, helped get rid of communism. What in the world happened, that they ended up with their present government? I’m stimied that they have elected the government they now have.

And Poland knows that if it allows Muscowy to conquer the states to the east of Poland, it will inevitably lead to Muscowy directly attacking Poland.

and Poland, being a flat plain with no significant natural borders... and despite recent efforts still being visibly weaker than either Russia or Germany, should really look to her history before threatening either Russia or Germany

Poland is already bordered by Russia on the north (yes, a small border but with alot of firepower) and east (Bellarus is essentially Russian military anyway).
I can only opine that Poland is better off right now than it would likely be by overtly invading or attacking Russia

The current government is a mix of
1. centre-left socially (right wing economically + asking for smaller government) KO (Komitet Obywatelstwo)
2. LEFT - Lewica - ex-communists who have always polled 4 to 8 % of the populace.
3. Third-way: a mix of “social christian democrats” and a farmer’s party (who are basically an old boy’s club)
#2 and #3 have opposing policies not only socially but also economically.
#1 and #2 also have opposing policies.
That’s why, in many cases (with the exception of the education ministry, which is worrying), the coalition isn’t doing much, but settling scores.
PiS (Prawo i Sprawiedliwosc) lost the election last year after having been in power for 2 terms prior. They are socially conservative, but economically LEFT and pro-welfare and pro-big government. A lot of the votes that went to the Trzecia Droga (third way) was more in disgust about PiS politicos actions.
btw, Trzecia Droga is a new party of Szymon Holownia - only 3 years old. Like most Polish parties, I fully expect it to die in the next 4 years.
Anyway, back to why they lost - because people were fed up with their political games.
I’ll take the abortion situation - Poland allows abortion ONLY for danger to mother’s life or health or for rape/incest or fetal defects. This brought the number of abortions down to 840 per year (yes, less than a thousand).
Russia in contrast had 340,000. If you take abortions per 1000 live births: Russia has 314 abortions per 1000 live births. Poland has 2.59
This was the situation and in my opinion was stable. Then PiS raked it up in 2020 to cover up their mess with the judges scandal.
Net-net, they got the leftists to make this into a “against women” situation which lost them more votes.
Finally, to wrap up — Konfederacja (check them out) are winning more seats and this is due to the shenanigans by the KO-Lewica-Trzecia Droga coalition
Poland is not threatening Muscowy.
Muscowy wants to eliminate the buffer states of Belarus and Ukraine.
This means that Poland needs to re-look at the Miedzymorze policy - i.e. having an alliance of states from Finland to Greece to stand against both Muscowy and Berlin.
Poland is not “overtly invading or attacking Russia”.
All Sikorski said is that Polish troops COULD be envisioned as helping Ukraine fend off Muscowite troops IN Ukraine.

Of course Poland would step in if Western Ukraine was threatened, that should be a given.

And Poland would like it if the peace of 2013 returned.
Note that Muscowy coming to Poland’s borders is what Poland wants to prevent.
As to Kaliningrad and Belarus - Kaliningrad is easily enough cut off while Poland has already built a wall against Belarus, and a large chunk of Belarussians do NOT want to be ruled from the Kremlin
