Kharkov fight aims to disintegrate Ukraine’s army
Asia Times ^ | 5/14/24 | Steven Bryen

There is a large Russian operation underway in Ukraine focused on the Kharkov area. At the same time, the Russians are also attacking elsewhere, primarily in Donbas but also in Zaphorize. The threat in the north has compelled Ukraine to pull troops deployed elsewhere, including Chasiv Yar, to try and hold the line in the Kharkov area.

If Russia intended to force Ukraine’s army to move its troops northwards, then it looks like a success so far. These troop movements will offer the Russian army the chance to do more damage to Ukraine’s army.

The Russians will mass and engage in low level, constant assaults in an area. The Ukes always react by moving up more reserves. At that point the Uke troop concentration is treated to steady FAB, artillery, and drone attack. The casualties must be brutal when you consider the tonnage of pin point accurate munitions being used on the Ukes. When the collapse happens it will go very fast.

NATO just recently stated all Ukraine has to do is ask for NATO troops and they will get them. The question is when do they ask? This is going to get even uglier.

Meanwhile, the UK's Express printed this today...what to believe?

Russia on the brink as Vladimir Putin's men slaughtered during worst day of the war so far

Russia lost a staggering 1,740 troops in a single day, the highest tally of casualties for Moscow since the start of the invasion in 2022, according to Ukraine.

In the previous 24 hours, Ukraine also claimed Russia had lost 30 tanks and 42 armoured vehicles.

Unfortunately the Russians can’t do a war of maneuver at this point, and end this quickly. We saw some of that early in the war, but their main force is a military made up of conscripts to win a war of attrition. So that is what they are doing.

The 6th disintegration is scheduled for the 27th.

This is day 887 of something to be over 800 days ago.

Day 31 still no follow up Iranian attack to the initial probing “fake” attack.

Week 3 still no nukes that were expected maybe three weeks ago.

Day 1078 of the imminent Chinese takeover of Taiwan-the
CCP needs a reminder!

Some say such futility is from years of practice?

Yes.

And it is the way it has to be in a multi-year war of attrition.

If your military is based on having NCOs which take years of training, and equipment which takes years to learn proficiently, what happens when you get into total war, where they get almost wiped out in the first year, and the survivors have to train the new conscripts ?

So, you end up with a conscript army that is fighting a war of attrition, but your military and equipment and supply chain and tactics and everything else was originally designed for highly trained volunteers - and you probably lose.

Ukraine talked about building fortifications in Kharkiv for over a year. What happened?

Those reserves are actual members from other units in the line of contact in the East and South. The commander of all AFU forces announced yesterday that he has no RESERVES NOW, and they must canabalize other combat formations for people to haul munitions north, medics, civilian vehicles, mules and on foot.

Lavrov reported to the Duma today for reappointment and they asked him about he diplomicy on Ukraine, and he said the Western leaders have cut all diplomatic ties and they prefer a battlefield solution to the situaiton. Lavrov went on to say that Russia is going to give NATO a battlefield solution that may disingrate NATO.

NATO on the otherhand has stated that they must become a worldwide military organization with members in Korea, the PI, Thailand, Japan, etc., and that NATO will begin to move to the Pacific theater of operations since they have achieved their goals in Ukraine.

Sounds like Ukraine is settled. Russia will continue to wipe out the AFU as they surge into the active kill zones away from the vast areas of Ukraine - Russia is in no mood to put up with NATO troops on ground, or EU boots, and will happily kill all of them. Thus the Pacific Pivot of NATO. Westward expansion if complete.

Saying NATO is a defensive organization is like saying Ukraine is a democracy.

Thanks for sharing the latest Russian MOD talking points.

How many Russian men does Putin plan to sacrifice per square mile near Kharkiv?

At some point about a year or so ago Ukraine was able to dislodge Russian forces from the area.

I suspect Ukraine extracted too many troops from the area and the Russians came back.
