Chicago police say a 13-year-old girl was shot by a car owner Tuesday morning while allegedly trying to steal the car.
Police updated information on the incident, saying that the owner shot at the 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy who was allegedly with her, according to ABC 7.
A bullet hit the girl “in the right side of her body” and she was taken to the hospital, where she was “in stable condition.”

There is a Dodge TV ad showing a boy driving the car as his father has to be schooled on the car’s good pickup. For a supposed inner child.
Isn’t that irresponsible? Didn’t notice if it said “don’t attempt. Professional drivers on closed course” or something.
Like having to tell morons at home not to jump off a mountain cliff in an ad. If they don’t say it they could lose money in court by the family of the person who imitates it.

Someone has to say it: This is shocking that a 13 year old would try this without any apparent inhibition, even in Chicago. Like reaching to grab a candy bar while the convenience store clerk isn’t watching her.

I graduated U of Chicago in 1967 and heard the stories of car theft gangs back then of 13 year olds who would, assumedly, have minimal penalties if caught, having to use blocks tied to the pedals so they could reach them while driving.

True story. When Reggie Jackson was one of the biggest Yankee stars he was parking his luxury car into a curbside parking space in New York.
Suddenly a guy drove up and yelled that the space was his because he wanted it first. Jackson got out to talk to him and the guy pulled out his gun and shot at him. The shot missed him and hit the car. Jackson put up his palms and said “Hey, okay, okay, the space is yours, buddy.”
Bullet hole had to be repaired but it could have been worse.

I was at Wayne State University in Detroit then.
Doing campus mail deliveries to addresses including the government programs to help youths such as Head Start and Upward Bound and campus research offices about improving LBJ’s War on Poverty for the Great Society.
Chicago obviously had a much more direct approach for increasing incomes of youths.
But the Detroit July, 1967 riots brought in a lot more “five finger discounts” in the form of looting. My almost next door grocery store was an A&P that was the one shown worldwide as a totally burned out husk with a few empty light cables handing over blackened shelves on TV news stories. Famous.
