Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) Republican colleagues dealt him another blow Wednesday by killing a motion to allow a vote on his proposed Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) reauthorization.
Nineteen House Republicans sided with Democrats Wednesday to defeat the rule, 228 to 193.
Johnson called for a House Republican Conference meeting Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 Eastern to “regroup” as he tries to extend FISA’s authorization – with some reforms – before the April 19 deadline.

Deep State screws the pooch when it screws America. Will Deep State get screwed by the people’s representatives? Time will tell.
Why do so many democrats want to kill it?
Why do any republicans want to keep it?
Remember the 19th pilot...they couldn't bring him in because there was "a wall".
No way should it be killed. There will always be some cowboy that will abuse any law.
"It appears that Gen. Ripper exceeded his authority"
The thing that gives me some pause is only 19 Rs were opposed along with all Ds. Is it possible the choice was this or something worse and now we’re are going to get the other options rammed through?
How about a LOT of reforms AND if the FBI wants this so bad, how about they provide the information that they have been stonewalling on, like how many FBI were undercover at the Jan 6 event for starters, and then maybe a few 100 more things they've withheld.
Regroup to put FISA and FISC in the ash can where those freedom-stealing, rights-abusing Star Chamber abominations rightfully belong.
They have been used for NOTHING but political revenge virtually from their inceptions. Deep state political agencies create claims from whole cloth and then get that damned FISC to rubber stamp the warrants they use to subvert our Constitution. Make one specious and unfounded claim “foreign entities” are involved and your American hating, deep state judicial system takes off running to nab one more conservative. They all should be prosecuted for political RICO violations, IMO.
💯
Apparently not. You don't even get what Moynahan was saying. He was talking to Republicans, not fellow Democrats.
He was in Congress when the Democrats ruled the roost for decades. A time when Republicans got nothing and were told to be glad we let you have that.
Just their handling of the border (or lack thereof) proves they can’t be trusted with FISA and FISC.
Signs of life from a party that the RINO wing is working overtime to pull down into minority status—even after all their stolen seats.
Dem-Lite
Not even a final vote. A preliminary vote and freepers forget the showmanship in this. The dems voted against surveillance??? We know they love big brother, so this is all kabuki. Come April 19, fisa will pass. We’ll be moaning and groaning.
Tom Tiffany said it best re: Johnson. “The difference between Johnson and Jeffries is Johnson has an R after his name and Jeffries has a D”
If you followed Hillary’s Russia, Russia, Russia concoction and its entry into the FISA/FISC process with collusion by the DNC, FBI and DOJ you’d see just how evil FISA/FISC is. Remember the Trump hating FBI agent and his girlfriend? Peter Strzok (Agent) and Lisa Page (FBI Lawyer). They worked within the FISA process against Trump
After the initial warrant request submission, they all were supposed to come back to the FISC in 90 days with MORE and different information to back up the initial request. What they submitted were rehashed MSM stories of the original fraudulent Steele BS material created for Hillary’s use against Trump.
Intentional misuse and abuse happens like this every day with FISA and the FISC rubber stamps virtually ALL of it with something like a 99% approval rate.
True. Procedural.
The republican majority is held hostage by rinos. Even this is probably by some sinister design.
FISA must die. It is so corrupt that even when it was revealed the FBI lied to the FISA court, nothing was done. Let it lapse, then build something from the ground up, if that is even possible with today’s politics. What judge is willing to cross the 3-letter agencies that have 6 ways from Sunday to destroy you. Maybe “from the ground up” needs to include the FBI/CIA...
BUT....
Section 702 is set to expire on April 19. But the program can continue operating until April 2025 because the FISA court last week granted a government request authorizing it for another year. Under the law, the surveillance activity can continue so long as there are active court orders allowing it, even if the underlying statute expires.
Don’t get excited its still in effect for another year....
Regroup to cave.
