Pro-life conservatives are 'disappointed' in Trump's new abortion policy, but stick by him: 'only one option'

Conservative groups backing former president Donald Trump in his re-election bid say they are "deeply disappointed" with his official position on abortion unveiled Monday, but it won't deter their support in November.

The former president and presumptive GOP nominee in a video posted on Truth Social Monday morning said he cemented his position on the controversial issue, saying that abortion access should be a states’ issue and didn’t endorse a national, federal limitation – like a 15-week ban.

Pro-life interest groups who have endorsed Trump expressed disappointment at his announcement, but it appears unlikely to sway their support in consideration of Trump’s overall stance compared to Biden’s extreme abortion policy.

"The reality of a stark choice between President Biden who supports abortion: any number, any reason, up until birth, all paid for by the taxpayer and President Trump: who gave us three Constitutionalist justices, 220 lower court judges, appointees who support life and the overturn of Roe v. Wade has my endorsement and support in November for President," said Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America (CWA), who said she "favors federal limits on abortion."

I’ve already said, Trump should have said what Reagan did. It’s a state issue and that is where it should be banned.

Trump is the only real even somewhat conservative candidate to support in the race with a chance of winning, but this is not the correct view.

I hope he will clarify and state where he wants to draw the line. Reagan proved you can support the Constitution on abortion while standing up for life and still win.

The other thing is that the left is going to use the pro-life groups’ support of Trump as a “proof” that he secretly supports them anyway.

The Constitution does not allow federal limits. There is a difference between demanding everyone behave as you believe is right and having a democratic republic established under the constitution. Those folks you quote are not on the right side of history and do not understand or respect the constitution.

Reagan acknowledged that error while he was governor. Said it was one of his biggest mistakes.

Because it’s not his decision. It is for each state to decide and the voters to drive the decision.

I personally am against abortion in most all cases, and I was against R v W which codified it (mistakenly and unconstitutionally) and glad it was later justifiably reversed by the USSC. But on the issue alone, I don’t think it is the Federal Government’s business to ban it because it isn’t clearly delineated in the Constitution as its business.

It is clearly a states’ issue - just like most murder cases.

You don’t speak for everyone. Trump is correct and is taking the high ground. It is you that want to decide for all Americans, arbitrarily and without authority.

I live in Realville.

In Realville, a person who supports a Federal ban on abortion will not be elected President. It is not something I am happy about, but it is the CURRENT reality.

Baloney. These pro-life jokers spent years pursuing a strategy to get the U.S. Supreme Court to rule that abortion is a state issue … and now they’re turning around and claiming that it’s NOT a state issue.

I had these losers figured out years ago. The pro-life movement is nothing more than a business to them.

And using him as a very poor example clearly shows to me you're attempting to pull at people's favor of President Reagan in order to get said people to agree with your stance. Bad choice.

Attempting to get a rabidly pro-life statement out of President Trump about abortion is stupidity at its height. He put himself in the correct position with his statement, and that's enough for most people.

Your stance reminds me of Hamas and their insistence that Israel must be annihilated and there is no other option.

All these are weak excuses for the amiable dunce.

It does not matter what Reagan “wanted”. What matters is what he DID. He made speeches and appointed a few minor officials at Main Justice who gave pro-lifers an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on.

He also appointed two pro-choice justices who preserved Roe from 1992 - 2022.

President Trump (as beautifully outlined in his full statement) promised to end Roe and he did, full stop. He didn’t mislead anyone, he never said he was against all abortions, he simply repaired to gaping hole in the Constitution created by Roe v Wade, did it decisively, and did it quickly.

?? This was always Trump’s position. He never backed a national ban and always indicated this was a Tenth Amendment matter.

Not true.

Trump floated a 15 week federal limit.

Trump criticized DeSantis' Florida 6 week limit.

You do not get to re-write facts.

What Liz posted bears repeating-and re-reading:

The USSC itself ruled via Dobbs
the rqConstitution doesn’t give rights to the federal govt to intervene in the decision;
that’s already been left to the states.

Do you realize that it took the pro-life movement over 40 long years of protest and lobbying to get the US Supreme Court to reverse Roe v Wade, which they finally did-and rightfully made it a States Rights Issue-because the fed has no business in deciding that life or death issue any more than they have a right to decide whether every state will have/not have the death penalty, or for what. I live in a pro life state and I’m pro life, as is the majority here.

If a woman is determined to kill her unborn baby, she can drive across the state line to New Mexico, where there are plenty of drive-thru type abortion facilities. She just can’t do it in Texas. Do not be foolish and bring this issue to the fed-AGAIN-do you want abortion on demand up to birth again? That is we had before with Roe as the status quo. Many of us do NOT want that back, or anything like it-if you don’t want abortion in your own state, work to get it stopped like other states have done-why would you ever, ever trust the fed with any life and death issue?

What these pro-life leaders aren’t telling you is that what’s really got them butt-hurt is that they got Roe v. Wade overturned in the U.S. Supreme Court … and have since then gotten their collective asses handed to them every time the issue has come up in a state ballot process.

When??

Don’t tell me you fell for Slimes propaganda.
Former President Donald J. Trump has told advisers and allies that he likes the idea of a 16-week national abortion ban with three exceptions, in cases of rape or incest, or to save the life of the mother, according to two people with direct knowledge of Mr. Trump’s deliberations. …
IOW, no he did not.

I fail to see an issue with His stance of it being a state’s issue.

Because it is.

Like or it hate it, a Federal ban on Abortion is not going to fly in the country ever again. Too many whack job leftists and Indoctrinated children because Parents by and large don’t give a rats ass and send these kids to government ran indoctrination camps for 12 years.

Don’t like that, get the secession movements going and discuss this topic there.

Ronald Reagan was full of sh!t on that point … considering he was the governor who signed one of the nation’s first pro-abortion bills into law.
