Now that the presidential primaries are over, one question is on everybody’s lips: Whom will Republicans nominate for vice president? Unfortunately, former President Donald Trump’s campaign hasn’t been cc-ing me on its internal strategy emails, so your guess is as good as mine on that one (although I recommend our recent politics chat for some informed speculation). But I might have an answer for you on when Trump will announce his running mate.
Choosing a No. 2 is a big decision — so, unsurprisingly, campaigns tend to take their time making it. Since 1972, when the modern presidential primary era began, every non-incumbent major-party presidential candidate has waited until at least July, and often August, to announce their running mate.
But we can get more specific than that. As I wrote four years ago, the timing of running-mate announcements has historically depended on when each party has held its convention. From the 1800s all the way through 1980, vice-presidential nominees were always chosen at the convention itself.* (Originally, the convention held a contested vote for vice president the same way it did for president, but things settled down in the mid-20th century, with the presidential nominee declaring his preference and the delegates going along with it.)

Picking Trump’s Veep is a very tricky matter.
Do you choose someone who is competent, conservative, and will carry on with the MAGA agenda in 2028 and 2032 as President?
Or do you pull a Biden and pick a goofball that the Left wouldn’t want to take over the Presidency, thus providing a cushion for any future Trump impeachment?
A very competent Veep will make it too attractive for RINO Republicans in the Senate to vote to convict Trump on whatever bogus charges the Democrats bring.

The Democrat cheating is going to be massive this year. So I personally favor a VP who can most help Trump win in November. You can’t govern if you don’t win in the first place.
If it is someone running for office, it will likely be in the summer. Of course in many states you can run for more than one position at the same time. There’s a scenario that would be very funny, but I won’t mention it now.

Points to Marco-hispanics. Think Latin American gains in Argentina/El Salvador. Think Cuba turning over in a violent fashion-internal. Turn the focus away from the other trouble spots in the world. Florida is safe. JD/Iowa needs to marinate in the senate. He’s not even 40.

It’s driving the left insane that they have no idea what is going on inside the Trump campaign.
Trump will choose a VP after the Democrat National Convention when he’ll know who he is running against.
Supposedly it’s going to be Mike Flynn.
The pick needs to check at least a few PC boxes.That is sad but true. A loudly conservative Black Woman, or someone with an obvious disability. An American Indian, or a Conservative of Cuban background are also possible.
So a black, female, Greg Abbott, who is Jewish, and has a tribal membership card.
