US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen walks back transitory inflation claims: 'I regret saying it'

As Americans have continued to sound off over sticker shock on retail and grocery shelves, the U.S. Treasury secretary admitted Wednesday that her public predictions were wrong.

"I regret saying it was transitory [inflation]. It has come down, but I think transitory means a few weeks or months to most people. And it's lasted longer than that," Janet Yellen told FOX Business’ Edward Lawrence in an exclusive interview.

In early June 2021, Yellen had tamped down inflationary concerns, claiming rising costs and the contributing factors were "transitory," a term used to describe temporary market conditions.

"We have in recent months seen some inflation, and we – at least on a year-over-year basis – will continue, I believe through the rest of the year, to see higher inflation rates, maybe around 3 percent," Yellen said that June. "But I personally believe that this represents transitory factors."

Just one year after her comments, inflation surged to 9.1%, which had not been seen in four decades. Fast-forward to this week, when Labor Department data indicated inflation unexpectedly ticked higher in February thanks to a jump in the cost of gasoline and rent, climbing to 3.2% year-over-year.

Janet Yellen is a lying liar and basically has her position because she is stupid enough to be controllable.

A lot of double-talk from Yellen. Bottom line, Yellen is trying to put lipstick on a pig. She is in no way an independent regulator as she should be.

One of two things, the Yenta has zero idea how to analyze facts staring her in the face, or her remark was totally political on behalf of the regime. Not that it can’t be both, and in probability it is. Why these geriatrics (77 years old) in DC can’t just go away and enjoy their golden years is beyond me.

Why is it, nobody ever brings up the last time she was in control of our countries finances? 2008 was a disaster, just like it is today.

Just my opinion - they do things purposefully. At some point they will feck up, the situation will turn outside of predicted limits, the experiment is gonna blow hard in their face and the phase of heads on spikes will commence.

I worked for a guy who refused to retire. They forced him out by eliminating his position and offered another they knew he would refuse. He had plenty of money and could have retired at 55. He delegated his daily work to his staff and did nothing all day.

She is in no way an independent regulator as she should be.

Yellen is no longer in the Fed. As Treasurer, she works directly for the president.

As if Yellen would have told Joe, hey we better reign in spending. She’s just a political hack repeating the regime’s narrative. There’s no penalty for being wrong.

If I were to guess, political idealogues, maybe?

Plus the money must be really good.

"I regret saying it was transitory [inflation]."

It was suppository inflation, a democrat specialty.

When all of government, to include treasury, military and justice, becomes 'captured' by a political party, the "checks and balances" have been overturned.

The Democrat party, and especially in its support for racism, its aggressive trans policies and "modern monetary theory" advocates and pursuit of "Christians" with whom it disagrees, is become far more than a political party among political parties. It has become nearly totalitarian.
