Government has an insatiable appetite for money. If taxes are increased they will quickly spend it — and even more thereby adding to the deficit and debt. The more money it gets the more it will spend, usually on dubious and wasteful programs, giveaways to political favorites, subsidies for friends, expansion of government, increasing government employment, etc. Moreover, the bigger government gets the more opportunities there are for graft, corruption and abuses of power. Trust me, the Left knows this well whihc is why they fight so hard to expand it.
The Founding Fathers would be appalled by the enormity and breadth of our overbearing government today. I’m for taking money away from it to get back to a leaner and more responsive government. Tax cuts are one way to do that.
BTW two of the credit ratings services have downgraded U.S. debt and a third has it on credit watch. Yet that has done nothing to slow down the spending.
We have a serious spending problem and the government needs to be downsized and put on a diet.
The more frugal you are, the less you need.
Lifetime finances are somewhat strategic, however.
If you drop out and live a frugal life, it is unlikely you are saving anything for retirement. At some point you are going to be old and destitute, and either homeless or relying on the government to support a meager existence.
If you drop out you are unlikely to ever afford a home and will be subject to the never-ending rent increases of your landlord. You can mitigate that with where and how you rent, but you will always be paying rent. You will never get over the hump to a free and clear home with no shelter cost beyond taxes and maintenenace.
So yes, you can drop out and live frugally but it has some downsides and will probably catch up with you if you neglect how to fund your own retirement. If you drop out, you can’t even rely on a pittance of Social Security benefits. You will have no Social Security benefits.

Better than taxable OT dollars...especially for work/life balance.
...while highest level management rides your ass for not firing nonperfomers fast enough while complaining that you are working too much to fill in for the ones you are already missing and giving hiring authority to useless recruiters that only hire exactly what you have told them not to.

I'd love it. Think about it, all your competition has unilaterally disarmed. Just show up and work hard and you look like a rock star compared to the new normals.
We had to compete against smart productive people who were sometimes better than us. Which only made us better.
What an opportunity.
Nothing wrong with walking away from a 9 to 5 job or not wanting to be a cog in a big corporate machine, as long as you own your choices, accept the tradeoffs, and ditch the sense of entitlement.
The sense of entitlement is the great divide. The participation trophy Gen Zers expect everything to be gift wrapped and whine when it doesn’t happen.
Their peers who are determined to make their own way, accept the risks and want to see if they can build something are our kind of people.
A big part of the problem is the convergence of interest among the big institutional players — starting with government but including giant (and often global) corporations, big media, the academic Borg, etc. — which is creating an environment that chokes out the little guys.
I think Biden and co are hiding the truth about the Depression style economy and lack of jobs by insisting that the young no longer want to buy anything, like a car or other material items and instead, are just swearing off good paying jobs.

It sounds like your career path has taken you to places far above my pay grade.
As a human being blessed with sound mind and body, I start with contentment and try to waive off any kind of envy. Things seem to go well that way.
I am just about to reach full retirement age, but have no intention of quitting work. The pursuit of happiness does not allow that, especially in view of the fact that honest labor helps my neighbor.
I would bet that te majority of Gen Zs who no knothing about Caddyshack, and it breaks my heart.

Well considering the way major corporations have treated long time, loyal, hardworking employees I really don’t blame them for seeking out alternatives that offer better security and satisfaction. Putting the needs of a faceless CEO before the needs of your family (which are not just financial ones) and self is not necessarily a foolish choice.
If one is fortunate to earn a living pursuing what they love m ore power to them. Neglecting your obligations and having your family do without necessities because the work available is not good enough is inexcusable.
The young women can go with online stripping with onlyfans. The young men can stay at mommy’s house rent free. And why work when welfare is handed out to everyone. Heck. I am very tempted to sell everything and collect every welfare “benefit” while I live in an RV. Why work? Really? It is not rewarding to be a tax slave to support illegal aliens, rapefugees, welfare leeches, and a massive bureaucracy that absolutely hates your guts and wants you dead.
