Talked to my sister in Canadian, TX (they had started to evacuate on Tuesday...horses and cattle). She and some of the other Canadian school employees are taking, I think she said, 20 kids to Amarillo to go shopping for things they need. These are kids that lost everything in the fire. She said last she heard there were around 60 homes in and around Canadian that were lost
Bible in a Year :
Every animal of the forest is mine.
“Am I an owner or a steward?” The CEO of a multibillion-dollar company asked himself that question as he weighed what was best for his family. Concerned about the temptations that can come with vast wealth, he didn’t want to burden his heirs with that challenge. So he gave up ownership of his company and placed 100 percent of the voting stock in a trust. Recognizing that everything he owns belongs to God helped him make the decision to allow his family to earn a living in exchange for work while also using future profits to fund Christian ministry.
In Psalm 50:10, God tells His people, “Every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.” As the Creator of all things, God owes us nothing and needs nothing from us. “I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens,” He says (v. 9). He generously provides everything that we have and use as well as the strength and the ability to earn a living. Because He does, as the psalm shows us, He’s worthy of our heartfelt worship.
God owns everything. But because of His goodness, He even chose to give Himself, entering into a relationship with any who turn to Him. Jesus “did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). When we value the Giver over the gifts and serve Him with them, we're blessed to delight in Him forever. .
Reflect & Pray
What has God given you that you’re grateful for? How can you serve Him with it?
You made everything, faithful Creator. Please help me to live my life as a gift from You today.
Gain a biblical perspective of money.
That is so heartbreaking to read, Kathy. Prayin for the Panhandle….Texas and Oklahoma!
As big and hot as those fires are, I’m sure the snow was useless. So very sad to think of the destruction.
I’d say you’re right. There wasn’t all that much snow.
Good evening, radu...hope your wind has settled and your temps have risen.
No wind here today, but some nice sun this morning. The sun helped the interior of my car while I was inside at work, where there was a breeze.
Multiple accidents on the way to work, multiple stoppages, and a couple “stuck in traffic” places. I wished I was home.
Good evening, Pro...is it spring yet?
Right now it is low teens. I went out on the deck to feed the ducks, without coat and gloves. Mistake! A breeze has picked up and my hands are now frozen.
Hey there, Kathy.
The wind died down last night and we had some sun for a while but it wasn’t too much warmer today. Rain is moving in ahead of warm front that will come through tomorrow. The weekend will be nice.
It looks like you had the same thing I did - - sun early, then clouds moving in during the afternoon.
I wondered what the streets were like. The parking lots around Lake Hood have been plowed a bit but they still look slick. From what you said, the streets must be pretty much the same. Glad you got through your travels unscathed.
It's been warmer but still wet with very little snow this winter.
I'm ready for warmer and longer days.
Hope you get Spring weather soon too!
radu just posted the map for me. My old phone won’t let me send pictures to my own emai, not even my work mail. Thankfully radu is my trusty conduit.
Thanks for posting this map of the expanse of this horrible fire.
Good evening, Mayor, and thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.
Hope the snow is staying away. Stay warm!
Always happy to help out.
It’s hard to believe how huge that fire is - - and in such a short time. Devastating.
According to THIS ARTICLE, it has become the largest wildfire we've ever had. So much destruction!
All considered, that’s a lot of acreage in a short time. Moving so fast, it’s a miracle only one person has died. At least that they know of so far. Evacuating must have been a hair-raising experience because there are only so many roads they can take.
We had one about 5 miles from here several years ago but it wasn’t nearly as large. It was plenty large enough, though, and took a little while to put out. Friends of ours almost lost their home but were lucky enough to be spared, barely.
No article about it at the link that I can see.
Thanks! I got lucky. LOL
Gorgeous eagle!
